My bet for Wilson

I saw some theories about what Wilson's rework would be, I'm here to give my bet too, but for that I think it's important to talk about the proposal that is the character within the game.

Wilson is a character that is considered base and neutral, in advantages and disadvantages, and according to the data I have, he is the most played within the DST repertoire.

Assuming that because he is the most played he is also one of the most loved, it is to be expected that the developers do not want to change the initial proposal of him being a neutral character, instead it is possible that they intend to enhance this characteristic even more. But how to do this?

Firstly, I think Wilson will have two main focuses for his update, which is better mechanics to teach beginners in an immersive way and the other point will be a deepening of the character's gameplay with the history of the world. So now let's comment on the two points:

Immersive Tutorial:

The idea is to create a beginner's guide that is also immersive and explains about bosses, foods and seasons in a simple summarized way and with a footprint that was written by Wilson himself, that is, adding "Wilson's Diary" to the game , which had already started with the character, being divided into tabs (exploration, creatures, magic, world history, food, seasons, etc) with short explanations as if they were reports:

Examples:

“Winter is coming, I've tried to gather as much food as I can, but hunger is always a problem.

"Navigating is usually tiring, but while exploring, far from the coast I found some signs of islands separated from the mainland that have some relation to the cycles of the moon... what is going on here?"

Wilson is known to be a curious mind and it wouldn't surprise me that he has a journal which he uses to jot down his notes on what to see. The book-in-game mechanic we already have with the recipe book and it would be something similar in that sense, in which novice players could use it to guide their game without having to use the Wiki, but without knowing about too many details to not spoil the experience. of exploration.

World History:

In this sense, I expect a complete reworking of Wilson's lines, with a deeper understanding of the ruins, what "they" are, leftovers, etc. I think Wilson must know something, because he already sat on the throne of shadows during the time. "Wilson we want answers!!!"

Ngl, I would enjoy reading Wilsons journal, especially if Maxwell and Wickerbottom will help explaining... things. 

Like, a page about Tall bird, where Wilson asks Maxwell how come Tall bird is a "failed experiment"

My only bet is that they'll drop the beta on March 9. Soemthing makes me think they'll hold it until the last moment. It would give them 3 weeks to test the beta and release the oficial update on the last Thursday of the month while still being on the first quarter of the year.

(Good, my prediction failed. I'll be able to sell my Wilson skins before the spring sale ends.)

I like this idea a lot but please and PLEASE, don't rework Wilson's quotes, they are one of the best things in this game and easily have the best lines among all characters.

I do not know where you are getting this "data" from, but in my experience of playing countless public worlds I find it very hard to believe.

I like your idea for the journal though, that would be a very friendly way for new players to become acquainted with the game and fits well within the lore.

I actually love the idea of a sort of journal or fieldnotes of Wilson's. Klei going nuts and adding detailed descriptions of stuff like Tallbirds or the Lunar Islands or other cool Don't Starve tidbits would make perfect sense to attach to a character like Wilson.

So this is how many players choose Wilson, not how long they play/are able to survive? Correct me if I'm wrong but, does this mean a player could in theory choose Wilson on one of these servers die within 4 days, hop onto a new server and choose Wilson, and this will count it as two Wilson selections? Also we shouldn't really regard a Wilson who arrives on a server for 2 days and disconnects as an equivalent to a Wanda with 120 days played. It's just not really a meaningful connection.

I don't know where one could find this data but a much better analysis would be amount of time played as each character per player and see what kind of data that shows. I think it would be obvious anyone with <100 hours would probably show most of their time played with the "starter" characters such as Wilson, and I'm sure there'd be a lot of Webbers too. Whereas the more dedicated players would have far more time played with characters that we recognize for their long term potential. WX, Wanda, Max, Wicker. Just as an example.

I'm probably an outlier, but I have over 4000 hours and I wouldn't be surprised if more than half of that was spent playing as Wilson. I just really enjoy the simplicity and the bonus winter insulation.

This is the count of how many players are currently playing and will not be counted if you quit the game.

But perhaps because klei has updated the lobby server, it seems to be having some trouble fetching data recently, so many servers should not have so few players. In the past, when its numbers were reliable, Wilson was always in the top three.
