Hey klei, can we cancel the spell animation sooner?

Recommended Posts

I know the rework is out but sometimes small changes were made after the rework was already out of beta.

The animation time with the current cancellation is not bad but it could be much better, currently you can cancel the animation around 2.30 sec, if the time was improved to 1 sec or 1.5 sec it would be much better, it would allow for more gameplay fluid and dynamic kite + spells with the current time is still possible but the gameplay is more blocked.

And please klei! Give to maxwell the animated short suit, it can be a skin but I need that suit!
I don't know if it's just me but I would have been much happier with the animated short suit as a skin than the mage skin maxwell received. hahahahahaha

They already made it 50% faster. The spells are all practically free and really overpowered, the only thing even pretending to hold them back is needing to try to find time to cast them. I think it's much more fun this way than just mindlessly spamming a really fast animation.

They are not 50% faster.
Well, in this case it's a preference, I find dynamic and fluid gameplay much more fun.

tbh, i prefer demanding gameplay. Timing perfectly a spell feels rewarding in every videogame and specially with maxwell, a glass cannon summoner and magician that needs to be careful when casting

i wont be agaisnt faster casting on the snare tho

Yes they are, the speed got buffed in the betas twice.

I played the beta and I know they allowed canceling the animation at a certain point but for sure it's not even close to 50%, you cancel the very end of the animation, maybe 10% faster if you cancel the animation.

Yes, in that case it's a matter of preference, maybe canceling early is a little less rewarding for those who like this part of finding the perfect time to launch (although you don't need to cancel early and see the full launch animation and continue needing to find the perfect times if I wish, I don't use the portal to change characters because I don't like this mechanic for example.) but for me, who just want to play with the features as much as possible in the most varied situations, it's a little frustrating that many sometimes it's better if I just don't use any spells because of the cast time or get hit when the spell has already been cast but I have to keep seeing its animation

They lowered the cast time by a full second which is much more than 10%

but isnt the same. The portal is easy to avoid and doesnt affect you if you dont want but cancelling before can happend by just wanting to aboid a known damage coming, i will spam the move key to avoid that hit

other thing will be to be able to cancell it totally, you being able to move but the spell not being casted like wickerbottom's book. But cancelling plus casting is something i dont feel right

If you allow me to cancel at any time like wickerbottom's book I'm happy too. hahahaha

A second off of 3 is 50% faster.

No, if you reduce 50% of 3sec it drops to 1.5sec so it's not 50% faster and even then you can't cancel the animation in exact 2sec so the time was a little longer than 3sec as it was allowed cancel 1 full second earlier.

If I'm biking at 10 mph it takes 3 hours to go 30 miles. How fast must I bike to travel 30 miles in 2 hours?

I know where you want to go but it's wrong logic we're not launching 50% faster the same way you're not getting to the destination 50% faster.
In your problem you increase your speed by 50% but you are not arriving at your destination 50% faster.
Your claim that we are launching 50% faster is still wrong, especially considering that we can't cancel in 2 sec.

Anyway, it's the last time I answer you in this post, you've already given your opinion, I've already given mine, continuing will not add anything, now it's in klei's hands, probably klei won't change that now but I hope that as in the wolfgang rework after a while she realizes that it is a great improvement in the quality of life and makes the change.

50% faster does not mean 50% less time.

It doesn't?

No. Refer to bike analogy. You are saying that 100% faster and 100,000,000,000,000,000% faster are identical since both would be completed instantly. Adding a second worker would instantaneously complete all work. Peddling twice as hard would teleport you to your location. Doubling an animation's speed removes the animation and causes it to complete instantly. Wish it worked like that. All I'd need to do to get to work is move at a snail's pace then double that to achieve instant transmission.

If you want to convert % less time into % faster just divide 1 by the decimal. In this case it's ⅔ the time, 1 / 0.6667 = 1.5, it's 50% faster. All percentage reductions and percentage additions work like this, such as Wigfrid's -25% damage taken causing her to take 33% more damage to kill, or night armor's 95% reduction giving you 20x EHP instead of 1.95x.

Playing this on Xbox I can certainly say that since using your abilities Piss off the mobs so they aggro onto you- The slower casting times and being able to cancel casting is highly annoying in Solo play.

I imagine that with other players they can help you by attacking the thing that’s after you.. but when I JUST want to shadow Pillar and use Duelists on a Clockwork Knight, It shouldn’t also draw the attention of the nearby Bishop to attack Me. -_- Especially if I have to remove my protective head armor in order to boost the damage of the Duelists..

Makes playing Maxwell leave very little room for Error, and since I’m playing alone I can role back my many many MANY failed death attempts, but I still can’t help but feel like Deerclops is a death sentencing for Solo players, not only does attacking it with your duelists aggro Deerclops onto you, but you likely won’t have time to cast more Duelists after it makes short work of the first batch.

The one thing that IS Great for Solo play however is the Magicians Top Hat- You don’t even need to build the Magicians box to pull stuff out of, It’s both a Top Hat & 12 slot storage that only takes up 1 inventory slot.

That Alone makes playing Maxwell awesome for me- 3 stacks of 20 logs, a Thermal, Beefalo Hat, Eyebrella, Sewing Kit, Healing all stashed away in my little hat!

What becomes near impossible however: is the whole Prison/Duelist/Avoid Dying Combo.

I suppose if I get better gear that eventually this experience will get better… but as of right now- Casting Duelists on Deerclops with just a Magicians hat to boost their power is not only expensive in NMF, but also a guaranteed Angry Deerclops who won’t give you breathing room to summon more duelists.

The animations defiantly need to be speed up, aggro needs to be a little more forgiving, or something…

Playing Maxwell shouldn’t require being a elite expert who never gets hit.

But that’s just my take on the rework so far.

that has been always the point of playing maxwell. Now with a little more skill requirement

you just need to cage they with the pillars and cast the duelists. Or just walk since they are so slow

i dont want to sound rude and for sure with controller is harder but if someone has problems killing deerclops, playing Maxwell or any other less friendly character will just make things harder. Isnt maxwell fault, deerclops falls easy and fast with cage+duelists

why not? we have many character that dont require a brain like wendy, winona, wigfrid, wolfgang, wortox and company

is good for the game to have few harder characters. Variety on playstyles and knowledge/skill requirement makes the game richer and is very welcome when someone with experience play with newbies, they can have fun even by doing easy things like just surviving the season with them

The long release time completely frustrates me whenever I play the new maxwell to the point where I'm currently even preferring the old one except for the top hat.
I gained cool tools but this launch time greatly limits the situations in which I can use them to the point that I almost don't use the new spells with the exception of increasing dps on some bosses or using the cage for a specific boss.
Being able to cancel after 1.5sec instead of 2.3sec I think would be a fantastic quality of life improvement (maybe even sooner but 1.5sec would be fine for me)

I'm curious to see how popular maxwell will become after the rework hype wears off (if it hasn't already)

most of the good things about maxwell were nerfed to the point I am not interested anymore, I hope people like it, but for me its done.

Against bosses it's really easy to use duelists + cages but I think it's a big waste of potential and new toys are limited to just that.
The new spells would be great in a lot of different situations but currently they don't work well outside of bosses and for me at least it's extremely frustrating to have new things to play with and just not be able to play with them.

I see this longer launch time defense as the people who defended that the wolfgang detransformed in the middle of the battle or that the Optoelectronic Circuit of the wx should not deactivate during the day because it is already strong, they are artificial difficulties created by a worse quality of life , as klei has really gone back on these things still i'm hopeful she looks at this maxwell release time yet he has everything he needs he just needs to let people play more with all his kit.

i use them a lot to cage mobs like bunnymen to farm nf, monkeys (to farm and to save my ass), hounds or mctusk (really effective when they are sleeping, just cast it in the middle of the iglu and they will come out and get caged)

actually i dont use that much the cage in boss fights because last less than against mobs

because the more variety of characters the better. Max is really well balanced and is fun because isnt a no brain character, you need to time your casts, take into acount enemy aggro and pay attention to cages going down. There are other characters that arent demanding and characters between the less demanding and more demanding

timing or being aggroed by mobs or wolf being stunlocked by his form transition arent artificial difficulty like moggles filter active 24/7 on wx, that is a silly comparation. Timing is a very old game mechanic to punish careless people and a way to balance strong things, this kind of mechanic tells the player to git gud
