Don't Starve: Hardmode Edition

Recommended Posts

After reviewing the new presets, I've concluded that the game is becoming more and more newbie-friendly. However, elder players are becoming restless, and the game is just far too easy, and honestly, kind of boring. A hardmode preset for DST would be amazing, but I'm also compiling a mod to demonstrate these features better. Some of these features include:

- No map. (The usage of the map is completely removed. Wortox will suffer from this.)
- Light sources are more dim.
- Stronger hound waves.
- All enemies have larger aggro range and will chase you for more screens.
- Enemies do an increased amount of damage.
- Players will take increased damage from environmental dangers. (Fire/Cold), and more wetness from rain.
- The nights are longer, and the days are shorter. (Less day work time, means players must rush to get things done.)
- On death, the world is reset. (Optional.)

My tiny, sleep-deprived brain couldn't think of more funny things to add, so feel free to throw me suggestions!

Now, let's not get hasty

This isn't Rust. And even in Rust's hardmode, very few people could handle "no map".

Well, if they have such a problem with it, they wouldn't play hardmode DST now, would they? I think it's a challenging addition, forcing players to navigate. Can't be too much of a game changer.

It's literally a big game changer, and not in a fun direction. It shoots the UI/UX experience of the game.

We all know how the crafting menu change went. Everyone was drunk for a few weeks.

Wortox needs the map to use his ability to teleport anywhere he had already visited, he would lose that without the map.

That's the equivalent of saying want to play easy mode now all bosses die in 3 hits what you have a problem with that then you clearly don't need easy mode.

I think I speak for most people is when they want a hardmode they want something more equivalent to terrarias expert mode. Making things do more damage and have more health alone just makes the game more annoying and doesn't make the game impactful. Changing mechanics to make enemies and bosses harder while also changing the dynamic of season by adding harsher obstacles( maybe like blizzards, heatwave and droughts, strong winds and/or flooding), and adding a few new items and boss drops based on the hardmode can make it desirable(adding more unique and useful items to some of the unfavorable bosses like toadstool or malbatross to give people a reason to fight them more often).

Point is if this were an update that would span across months I'm sure people wouldn't mind the wait if it lead to more core gameplay changes

I like the idea of a hardhome preset, but not with things like "no map" this would be boring

I don't wanna increase bosses health. I don't want to spend any more time in a fight, I just want the challenge to be different and harder. Fights aren't everything in the game, anyway. With so many world generation settings, we can already adapt to the difficulty we desire. Currently, I reduce the generation of berries, carrots, all the resources possible. World insta reset can avoid rollbacks, It's something I'll try.
