Wortox is great at sailing now

Recommended Posts

The teleport is a fantastic way to go back for stuff you forgot, souls are ubiquitous with a fishing rod, or a boomerang for birds, so food, healing and returning to base is both really easy. Honestly ive started just making a boat and making a boomerang and taking off. If i run out i can teleport back, grab whatever i missed or prototype the driftwood oar and get back to it. Weeks at sea without stop is nothing to a wortox, he didnt even prep food.
its not a super traditional role for a wortox to take on but its been SUPER interesting. 25 food per soul feels honestly a little excessive rn. Three uses of a boomerang for food for a day plus whatever meat i get from the bird

final note: i personally have been using bees and killer bees for my wortox capture just for the numbers you can catch at once. what have you all been using? Bonus points if it’s something weird, cool or unique

you don't actually need to prototype oars, driftwood oars and boat patches anymore, they all are available from the beginning.

in any case, yeah, sailing as buffed Wortox was pretty fun. (wish we could teleport to boats)

Do light bugs have souls? You could have 3 rotating around you for light and drop what you need when you need it. They don't fight back and stay near to where you drop them. With some planning you could set up soul stations around your world....

I would feel a little bad for killing them tho

Can you expand more on setting up soul stations around the map? How?

Sure. This would only work if lightbulb bugs have souls and I'm not near the console to check. But if they do all it would require is some bug nets, a couple trips to the lunar grotto and some time. Grab a couple bug nets and head to the grotto to harvest as many light bulb bugs as u can from a single trip. Head back up or elsewhere in the caves and find advantageous spots that you would most likely need some. Lightbulb bugs stay in an area where you drop them and they only wonder so far (back and forth about the size of a small base). So drop what you have on you all in the same spot (A bit away from danger/ie catcoons). They will stay there till you need them. Head back down (after they grow back) and repeat at a new location. Now just pray they have souls lol

Hope this works for you

If you need more lightbulb bug plants use a mad science lab and the lunar experiment to turn lightbulb plants into lightbug plants at a convenient spot (cave entrance)

that's intresting.

personally i prefer spider nests cause they're easy to move and restock passively.

for souls would be easier to set up spider nest/bee boxes in key spots. Way less work over time

Those would work. Bee's tend to wander much farther than lightbug's and it would take more resources per soul but it's all preference. Spider dens would be my favorite of the two suggestions, tho lots of spiders all over the map may become a bit much. They would be self multiplying tho. I was able to get around 20ish bulbous light bugs per trip if my memory serves me right

He was looking for unique sources of souls other than bees etc. What I liked about bulbous lightbugs (if they have souls) is that they don't wander far, u can see them at night while they also provide light. They take 1 hit and you don't need to kite them for fast accumulation. But like I said I can't check to see if they have souls

can you even teleport back on a boat?

currently no(sadly)

What about if the boat has an occuvigil? You can see it as a piece of "land" at any point in the exact location.

Question for OP, how do you deal with sanity in the early game at the ocean? That's the only weak spot I always find with early sailing, getting harrased by the water nightmares or wavey jones.
Although I assume Wortox could just go to land, eat cactii, then come back to the boat, or something like that?

Nope, doesn't work. I've been meaning to report it as a bug as I see no reason why Wortox couldn't teleport to a boat on the map if he was fully aware of it's current location.

That's sad, yeah it should probably be fixed I mean it opens up a lot of gameplay potential during long trips (like when searching the monkey island) specially for a team of several boat members: Wortox bringing back necessary stuff could prove invaluable.

Honestly? Ive never had a single sanity issue as wortox. And if i did have to do something for super early sanity id probably get close enough to land to see it, teleport off and grab me some flowers abd teleport back.
alternatively fish dry into small jerky and drying kelp is also an option it you make a single drying rack befoee leaving.

For the map soul hop only working on land tiles I wanted to restrict how many edge cases could crop up with the map actions for this beta and limit player expectations being broke when things suddenly stop working for no apparent reason to the player. There are many ways where the client disagrees with the server and ways that the action could fail that will not present itself on the map without doing fixups on the client. The Ocuvigil helps prevent player expectations from being broken and has been on my list of things to look into adding onto it since the start of the beta and see if there are any rippling side effects but I want the foundation of the mechanic solid first.

so in what sense wortox is great at sailing? im not sure i understand this take if its not able to teleport back on boat

For the time being I guess you can still park at any shore and teleport back and forth from that place, which saves time anyway. It's slightly better than Wanda. Like Jesse said, if they manage to make occuvigils on a boat jumps a thing from a technical point of view, then he will have an even cooler edge.

I'd love if Wortox could teleport onto boats but if someone moved the boat while he wasn't looking he teleports to where he remembers it being and instantly drowns lol.

Wortox deserves to get shenaniganed once in a while himself.
