Klei pubs consistently crash after the second year.

Recommended Posts

This is basically a rant, I don't expect anything to change. Pretty much after lunar storm is activated, the days that a Klei public server (endless) will be alive are numbered. If you ever try to rollback on a Klei public that's over 100, expect it to crash. Around day 150 of the world shown in the picture, caves stopped working due to a glitch with ancient guardian. Tried to rollback to have a chance at fixing the caves, server crashes. Two regens ago, fire farm crashed the world around day 120. About a month ago my krampus sack was hit by a meteor causing me to lose some precious items like backtrek watches, we tried to rollback, server crashes. I don't think Klei's servers can handle the amount of **** in the game right now. I mean it only takes one webber with an army to redbar the server. If you have more than 20 spider nests in a cluster on the surface, expect to have unplayable lag anytime you walk near it at dusk. If you want to get a enlightened crown on a Klei public just know that also comes with the risk of yeeting the world into oblivion with a roll of the dice. It's no biggie honestly, if I didn't want the world to disappear someday then I wouldn't play on a public server but it just feels shitty that progressing the game causes technical issues to end the run. I'd rather wake up to the base turned to ashes than have the world force regen because the server crashes. Atleast that's something that was intended and not some random bad luck.

My issue is I'd like to play the official servers without them crashing. Your solution is the equivalent to "quit the game". Obviously if I stopped playing the official servers, I wouldn't have the issue. The servers shouldn't be randomly crashing in the first place.

I don’t think they’re a top priority on Klei’s list if you want to know my opinion.

These servers have never been on the Xbox version of the game, and as of the most recent PlayStation update it appears they removed them from PS as well.

Im not even sure if Nintendo Switch has them or not..

But as someone who plays on Xbox and has only ever been able to play in player hosted worlds- I’ve never had a problem with it.

In fact: if Klei could somehow save money to do other stuff by removing these completely- I’ve never had them so.. I won’t care if they go.

the problem is there's no save after a crash happens, if the servers were 100% crash free it wouldn't need a save, or if it had a save it wouldn't need to be 100% crash free. Right now klei doesn't care one bit about pub servers to even add a crash recovery save and that's the problem.

I wish it did this every time people rollback because they made a mistake and something happened to them or their backpack.

As mike was sayin, klei public servers arn't a priority. I might be mistaken but one the devs posted about the state of the klei public servers a few months back and how they considered shutting them down for good as they don't have the resources to actively moderate or maintain them... which makes sense.

When you ask them to bug fix the klei servers what you are really saying is "the klei public servers are more important than the wicker update, bringing the nintendo switch up to date and future content updates, these updates should be delayed to fix servers that 0.01% of the player base use"

There's something special about pubs, I always enjoyed them a lot and met most of my dst friends on them, plus learned a ton of stuff from randoms. They are a great place to learn and experiment, and I love the wild west vibe they have, you can't trust anyone and you will come across like minded people regardless of your style.

I wish they would be more stable too, but it's understandable why they are not a top priority.

Crashed again today, same **** pretty much. Did all of pearls quests, killed crab, killed fuel, turned on storm, fed the moongleams to portal and planted the monkeytails/nana bushes at base. Server proceeds to crash around day 128. It's literally unplayable.

CC wasn't even dead. There were people there wanting to continue what they were doing. Imagine if it was someone's first time completing every task and they don't even get to see CC. They'd feel like every task they just did was wasted and probably never open the game again.

No, they'd just keep making threads on the Klei forum giving updates to how many times they've been playing a videogame for 20 hours straight before getting interrupted.
