There was a mod a while back (hasn't been updated in a while) that made solo Lazy Deserter usage feel really natural.
Lazy Lazy Deserter on the workshop, if you're interested.
...I genuinely feel like you could just throw this idea in vanilla and call it a day.

I think the best way to do solve this would be make desert stones activate when you are solo and it teleports you to the nearest LD.

Also, to balance that, remove the perk that makes Antlion gives you desert stones by giving trinkets and let the only way to obtain the stones by killing the Antlion or getting it in Klaus drop. In that way the stones would be kinda hard to get and but still can be useful for solo.

In a multiplayer  scenario, if a player would press the LD  teleport a player, the desert stone would not be consumed
