It's sound like fun.

The update must be look by Klei before it can enter, and nothing offensive or too game changing.

Is this that bad of a idea?

I don't think random people should influence the game in ways other than making a drawing and getting something vaguely similliar made by professionals into the game. 

Most don't know anything about gamedev. 

Besides, DST has ok mod support

I'm not saying it couldn't work but having the community decide the content for a game has shown to cause some controversy between said community

We did get to vote on vignettes for a bit but then when people kept voting for scenes without the characters in them intentionally: I’m guessing Klei decided the fanbase was being jerks, so we haven’t had those voting things in a long long time now..

Letting the fanbase come up with their own update designs and then voting on which wins would just be a bad idea

Plus: I kinda like it when I suggest something crazy and outlandish such as Water Gliding Spiders: And if the idea fits the theme of what Klei wants to do- We get Water Gliding Spiders..

It makes me feel like something I suggested help shape the game.

And there’s a lot of this that can be seen throughout the games updates: People suggest stuff and if Klei likes that suggestion we usually get something similar to it.

WX78’s current beta was a fan suggested concept Klei liked enough to put to testing.

The difference is that KLEI is the ones making the calls on what they want to do, we can suggest things all day long, but if it doesn’t fit what they want to do.. they aren’t going to do it.. and If the community got to vote on community update themes, I could end up with something like “Fairy Fantasy Land” because people really enjoyed those Fairytale skins Klei made a short time back.

And Then there would be this ugly biome in the game that stands out like a sore thumb with fantasy fairies and frog prince’s.

Its just not a good idea..

HOWEVER: If Klei wanted to let us vote on what their next content update will be, and the choices are all strictly Klei’s designs, it might be fun to choose between something like “Summer Update, Critters Overhaul, Or Elevated Land.”

Eventually All three would end up in the game anyway, but we the fans would get to choose what we wanted to see happen most first.

As much as I'd love something like this, even this has it's drawbacks. For example, people that voted for another option could turn sour when theirs doesn't win, name calling of others, belittling, being generally crass towards devs and the forum community itself... It would also most definitely immediately cause flames over people who disagree, especially if two updates would be pretty neck-and-neck in popularity of people saying "These people aren't playing the game right to think that" or "How could you not want X? X is WAY more important than Y"

People tend to forget the whole "They'll all be added later" in the heat of the moment and it comes down to what people want first. Unfortunately it seems the only real way to reveal news to people is when work's already been put into it, so people can actually see what's going on and what's going to happen before giving their opinion. Because I know for myself, while I love speculating and suggesting potential changes and updates, I really prefer to actually play with the content in question before really commenting or criticizing it.

In other words: Fun idea but it'd probably make people start fighting/arguing over it instantly
