You can access and craft that with the old ui setup in under 2 seconds... the rope is way to the left bro so super easy and fast to craft

in contrast prob the longest craft time for me with old ui will at tops be 4 seconds if im being lazy and thats a generously beefy number

Good point, the only thing that takes a bit of time is scrolling trough the structure tab. I'm pretty sure the new menu is made for noobs tho. Tbh, I just want the menu to be openable via tabs, so that it takes less clicking

Living Logs, Growth Formula Starters, Dark Swords, Bundling Wraps, Ropes, Multiple types of Turfs, Armour, Deconstruction Staff, Star Caller's Staff, Pick/Axe or other tools. Heck, there's an entire thread dedicated to showing off what people use so much that they decided to put in their favourites.

Okay id like to point out that with the old ui the craft stays in put on each tab cycle. So end in game when im crafting armor bundleing wrap ect there all on separate tabs for the most part. So the first on the list cuz there the last item crafted on that tab so I can argue and even say that these items can be accessed in 3 user interactions to most late game users instead of 4 well most of the time and if it was the last thing created it takes even less user inputs to make in just 2 inputs. So there in a way there is a favorite list already for controller users. So yeah bro its a redundant and unnecessary feature to most controller users and in a way this update it feels like the longer you have been playing Dont Starve on a controller the harder the slap will be for you in terms of how the game feels to me a user to actually play. Which is a really bad thing. Maybe the worst thing they could have done to the game for a controller user is mess with the ui. But thats just my opinion.

More like 3 user interactions instead of 1 because the first 5 in the list are my pins.

Have you even played the beta? I have, I played the beta and the regular crafting UI in both keyboard & mouse and controller. In both cases, the beta UI is way better than the old one.

I'll say.... i'm not too founded too with the new ui. Maybe for the nostalgia factor and how it has been a symbol for Don't Starve since its creation.

But i do recognize all of its new perks and quirks. It's a bummer we will not have an option to switch to the old one, like the backpack layout, so i'll wait for a mod when i feel to switch it.

You reaction is for sure exaggerated. Take a deep breath and give it a second try. It's really not the end of the world and if you still don't like it, just wait for the mod.

I dont play with mods period ask any of my friends this is non negotiable if you want me playing on your server. And if im forced to use a mod to play the game I actually want to play then I just wont want to play that game like seriously I take pride in playing modless its like hardcore playing to me. You even saying that just kind makes the devs sound incompetent like your basically are saying its ok that I will need a mod to be able to play the base game the way ive known and loved this game for years just because the dev team wont be able to keep the game playable as the same game just ridiculous. And ultimately this update means the game wont be the same game for controller users at all. Like imagine your a controller user yourself that has a player skill level and you like say for arguments sake a lvl 95 or higher player in terms of skill playing the game capped at 100 and all of a sudden you log on to find none of the user inputs are the same and you have been reset to a user skill of lvl 1 in favor of catering to mouse and keyboard users while screwing the rest of us. Thats whats happening to controller users  basically its a giant controller player skill nerf. Changeing the ui for a controller user is the same as completely changing the game so your suggesting its ok I be forced to mod against my will to keep playing the game I know and love thats insane. If it comes down to Klei hitting me with the ultimatum of mod or dont play. Ill just chose to not play it anymore. I dont support modders I support game developers and i dont support whats happeningto this game now.

Well sure that’s a lovely response for the console players.

Dont want us to stop playing the game? Don’t change the way the game I bought in 2017 plays to the point it’s no longer enjoyable or recognizable to me.

I haven’t got to play with the new Craft UI as I’m not in beta, but from the screenshots & gameplay I’ve seen of it: it looks worse then what we had.

I would LOVE to eat my own words on this, and upon giving it a few weeks trying myself, discover it’s not as bad as I fear… but saying use a mod or don’t play isn’t acceptable to anyone.

Yeah theres literally no need to download and play the beta with all these streamers out there. With there ill attempts trying to generate add revenue from me watching them play in beta which kind of makes me laugh but thats off topic #googleaddblocker

If you have kept up on reading this thread, commented on it, or reacted to it thanks for stopping in on this thread. i mean it. You guys just being here  helped in making this thread pop enough that at least one dev actually took the time to read at least some of it (and even dropped a comment even if it was only directed at trolls...). Hopefully they actually take our discussion in and use this collective user data and hopefully react accordingly to the best of there ability to make all parties happy in the end with the final released product . I guess time will tell.  And for this unfounded HOPE I want to thank all of you that stopped in on the thread. I dont think theres much more to be said here that I haven't already addressed in one of my replies if you think of something let me know and ill be happy to reply.  So yeah thanks guys and girls for the unfounded HOPE that you guys gave me just from being here to help amplify my voice to be noticed and heard.

... Is learning New controls really that hard? It might be just me being a zero year old maggot, but seriously.

This is absolutely not true. It's like saying that watching someone play tetris or (insert a game with intentionaly akward controls) is the same as doing it yourself.

What item will you craft over 20 times multiple times over the course of your gameplay that you need a favorites menu for these items? Like seriously would you please give me a list of craftable items you will use after your done with whatever your current activity is? I ask this because I cant think of a single item ill constantly be reusing that I cant already refuel. Maybe its a experience or a playstyle thing thats causing me to not understand how this is even a question. I hope you respond soon so I can attempt to further understand how this will be helpful to any controller user in the slightest way thanks. Anyone else feel free to let me know what these mystery items would be for you and your playstyle to maybe bring me some insight because im just not seeing it as a needed feature for controler users at all.

bundling wrap always on top
then the rest will be shuffle to fit the situation
for example when go to ruins ill change my fav tab to
- bundling wrap
-pickaxe
-hammer
-weapon
-armor
-rope

when building to
-bundling wrap
-fence
-wall
-cobble stone
-rope
-etc

honestly, don't make scott call joe. This was posted to state how one person felt, not to go anywhere. trying to persuade is different from telling someone is wrong.

I will join the discussion, but what prevents me from making 2 columns when opening a tab?
thus we will solve the problem of long scrolls.
and about new tabs, it's really bad for old players. When building a car, I’m very used to crafting a bug net, a backpack and other things at once, which are now on different tabs.
Even if you make a new window, why make filters special. why you can’t leave the old tabs that everyone is used to, making a new one for the scenery?

I’ll take a shot in the dark guess on this- but I have this feeling Klei has HUGE content plans in the next year or so that will add a lot more weapons, armors and various other types of craftables into those tabs then what we have in them now- The old UI would have been a scrolling Nightmare, where as the New one may be able to handle new crafts better.

We as gamers have no idea why Klei is making the changes that they are making, but I can assure you that it’s not just to change it for the sake of changing it to feel different: Why bother wasting time on changing something that worked decently enough as it was… UNLESS you (as a developer) know that while right NOW it worked decently but in the future (Yes Klei has their own Roadmap they aren’t willing to share with us anytime soon..) in the Future what works NOW might not work so well with what they’ve got planned for Later.

Mr JoeW is a pretty cool Klei Dev perhaps someday (when he is able & allowed to of course..) he can shed some light on why the Craft UI was changed, and more importantly why they’re completely dropping support from the one that’s been a staple part of the Dont Starve Franchise since 2013.

why more weapons if the majority does not use at full strength and half?
who ever uses whips, darts, or the Morningstar for real?
new things are useless garbage that no one will ever use. unless you endow these things with useful properties

wanda mains use whips, very few wicker mains use darts and players who want to max out their damage use morning stars

It depends on what you call useless, and/or what all Klei has planned to add to the game, for me personally I dislike using Hambats: Simply just because a weapon that has a spoil timer to me is quite a scary concept- mostly because I spend a lot of time getting from point A to Point B that by the time I get to what I want to fight with it the bat is less effective.

The Shipwrecked DLC had something called a Corking Bat this was an in between upgrade just above Spear and just below Hambat- thus for Me Corking Bats > Hambats for the obvious ease they had to obtain (easily farmed from trees) and lack of spoilage timer.

In fact: If Klei just ported over the weapons from Shipwrecked & Hamlet that ALONE would take up & clutter up your inventory- much less any truly NEW Stuff they plan to add.

The Hamlet DLC has something called a Cork Bat, made from Cork which is dropped by a tree called Claw Palm Tree, which was introduced in the Hamlet DLC.

My friend uses the Morning Star a lot, he loves that weapon for some reason. I even know someone else who uses it to farm Volt Goat Milk before he has access to Volt Goat Chaud-Froid.

Well yeah I got the two DLCs mixed up, point still stands- there’s various weapons they could port from those DLCs, there’s also newer weapons being added every day- Did Wolfgang really NEED a Marble Dumbell? I rest my case.

Hold up hold up so your seriously trying to convince me this is good because you think its more convenient to have to reset up some activity specific favorites tab every single time you decide to do a new activity? Instead of like actually being or getting better at the game. That sounds super tedious and annoying like the opposite of convenient. Just saying. But yeah I just dont understand how its hard for you to craft things with the existing ui. I mean have ****** up hands and I have zero issues crafting equipping, using anything you name it while kiting any mob. So yeah would it be farfetched for me to think if your excited for this interface rework that your like really really bad at the game and probably dont have more than 10 hours playing the game?

@JoeW I believe this topic is getting a bit... spicy.

I'm genuinely shocked to read how hostile some of these arguments are.

We're talking about a ui update in a video game and not some sort of censorship, being hostile about it and towards anyone fine with it doesn't solve anything, it just makes discussion for everyone involved miserable.

I see nothing hostile on this page at all. I mean sure theres some minor trolling here and there but all and all its just a simple discussion. Unless i missed something major somewhere it seems just to be people talking from multiple perspectives on a specific subject. If you dont like other peoples options your welcome to scroll away and navigate to another page on another topic. But please dont tag a dev calling it something its not just because you read something out of context and misinterpreted it as "hostile". Its a tad immature if your making these bold assumption's and declaring a neutral conversation hostile just because you agree with one persons option and not the other. Were all welcome to have our own option weather you agree with it or not.

If you wouldn't mind could you maybe quote where you interpret my words as "hostile" otherwise I just see your post as trolling without any thing specific to backup your false accusations. And without said evidence ill be left with no choice other than to view your post as just hostile slander.
