Webber and his spiders

Recommended Posts

Hello everybody! I am having a problem playing this character. I watched various guides for playing for Webber and there people had no problem in order to aggro spiders on enemies. That is, so that the spiders attack enemies and you, in turn, do not receive damage because opponents will not attack you. One of the youtubers said that after taming the spiders go into aggressive mode when the character uses "Webby Whistle", I did it but it doesn't work, the spiders stay friendly even when the enemies attack me. In order for them to start attacking those whom I want, I must myself inflict damage to the targets, but at the same time I become a tank and lose a lot of health. Tell me what am I doing wrong?

What most people do, is cancel the attack just before it lands. It will still pick the enemy for your spiders to throw themselves at, while you won't actually hit the thing and therefore it will aggro on the spider that bites it.

To cancel, you have to hit the mob- almost. The key is to let the animation start playing, with the swing your character takes, most easy to notice when you're holding something in your hand. Then, just before the hit lands, you have to move. You know you succeeded if you hear the 'whoop' sound of weapon cutting the air. You haven't hit the thing, but your spiders will attack.

As to why spiders don't protect you immediately, I don't actually remember if that's normal. I can recall both cases, where befriended spiders protected me, and didn't.

After learning this and doing it exactly as BezKa explained, second step is to learn the cancel attack animation with a boomerang at hand.

That way you won’t lose weapon durability (you must never throw it) but you can command the spiders to attack at a distance.

Uh, no.

Blowing the Webby Whistle makes your spiders go into defensive mode. Meaning they won't attack or eat food off the floor until something draws their aggro by attacking them or attacking you.

This is wrong though, the Webby Whistle is used to summon spiders out of their nests during the Day without making them all angry and wanting to kill you, the SHOO BOX does what your describing.

Both of these things are true.

The webby whistle reigns in allied spiders by setting them to passive. They will de-aggro and will not eat meat on the ground for a short period until they re-enter aggressive mode. It is also used to summon spiders from their nests without them attacking you. The whistle has no effect on wild spiders beyond waking them up.

The shoo box reigns in wild spiders by setting them to passive, but the effect doesn't last long and isn't particularly useful to Webber. It's more important effect is that it causes follower spiders to stop following. They will then either return to their nest and despawn, or if the link to their nest has been broken (by being picked up, for example), will simply revert to wild (sleeping during the day, wandering at night).

Generally speaking, Webber should always keep a whistle on him. Like Abigail's flower, it is essential equipment for corralling his followers. A shoo box is much more situational: potentially useful if an ally is being swarmed, but most likely the only time you'll use it is to dismiss your army at the spider pen.

The Webby Whistle summons spiders from nests, yes. It also makes your spiders (the ones you've recruited) goes into "defensive mode".

The Shoo Box's function is completely different.

Source: I've been playing Webber for over 1000 days.

There's no time limit to that. It lasts until the exit defensive mode by going into combat (due to your ordering them or due to something attacking them or you) or by relogging (which I found out the hard way; RIP early game school of Fallounders).

Really? Oh thanks, that'll make picking up the loot after a fight much less stressful for me. I assumed I only had a few seconds so I would snatch up the meat as quickly as possible.
