Multiplayer and co-op

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I really like ONI but a thing that I'm sure me and many would like is if you could add multiplayer. You could put a button next to a world saying "Multiplayer" and if you press it, Steam friends that have the game can join you by going to the Steam friends menu and pressing join next to you.

The person that made the world can choose starting dupes, printing pod recipes, speed of time, red alert, and choose the type of the starting asteroid.

The people that joined can assign errands, build, research, assign dupes to buildings (like assigning a duplicant to a bed, mess table, or bathroom), change schedules, and assign priorities (including yellow alert but not red alert).

Everyone that is playing could be called "Colony Managers" and somewhere in the screen there would show how many people are playing the game. It would also show who left and who joined.

If the person that created the world leaves, everyone has to leave, but if a person that joined left, you could still keep playing as long as the person that created the world doesn't leave

And for the new Spaced Out DLC, people that are playing could manage the other colonies while you manage a colony. You can visit the other colonies your friends are working on.

If you feel like I did something wrong or something might make you mad, notify me so I can fix it.

When a game is APM limited, COOP can be really really fun. This game is mostly dupe-time limited.  You can input command way faster than dupe can execute them.

I mean, I LOVE multiplayer games (Loved playing Factorio in multiplayer). But I fail to see how ONI would actually benefits from being multiplayer. I don't see what it would offer more than having 1 player stream his game and having a bunch of friend on discord discussing what should be done next with the colony.

Then again, I haven't really tried Spaced Out yet, so maybe there are new aspect that would benefits from multiplayer.

There once some people do a experiment like this. See the thread below.

Playing a base builder game with completely random people...what could go wrong. Clearly the multiplayer everyone, who asked for it, had in mind.
