Kitchen/Great Hall Design Ideas Please!

Where is your fridge located or where do they grab their food from? If it is at the end of the hall, they will grab the closest one first even if it is an unfinished meal of another dupe ( I think that hasn't changed at least). Sweepy could also help if the great hall is one straight floor only.

This is similar to my design as well but I use metal tiles to separate foods that need to be cooked versus cooked foods and I use chlorine instead of hydrogen. I use the auto sweeper to reach the food in small quantities to put in refrigerator in co2 environment. Also thermo regulator with hydrogen gas cooling instead of aquatuner. The visco gel is a great setup.

I always set my fridge/food storage priority to 7 and dupes clean the unfinished meals pretty fast. It`s also good to set downtime at the start of the cycle so they can clean after themselves instead of going to bed.

Pretty and symmetric design! I would put chlorine instead just so that germs can be cleaned faster (not that there would be germs after cooking; but I like chlorine food rooms; even without the thermal properties. Also would make the tiles around the cryo room insulated; and put in metal plates instead of the pit.

This is a kitchen / great hall design that I usually use - the doors in the Great Hall separate the auto-sweepers and conveyer system from the room count, but the sweepers are still able to pick up the left over food off the floor.

I use cooling from a standard aquatuner / steam turbine cooling loop for the ingredients and the food. In the early game, I use ethanol as coolant, but you can also use petroleum or crude oil, before switching to supercoolant in the late game. For the gas in the storage areas, I use carbon dioxide, because when I build the rooms, the dupes just breathe it out and it collects in there naturally. However, if you want to clean out germs, you can fill it with chlorine. I don't think it's really worth the effort though, as the germs that eventually get in there, if any, are negligible. 

A few further things about the numbered areas in the picture: 

1. Ingredients / Uncooked Food Storage --- This is where ingredients and uncooked food are shipped via a conveyor system from my ranches and farms. There is also an area just above the kitchen where dupes are able to manually load the conveyer loaders with ingredients (ie. for food that is not able to be swept by a sweeper). 


2. Kill Box --- This is where eggs from ranches are sent via conveyor belts. If the eggs are needed for a hatchery, the dupes have access to it, but otherwise, the egg will hatch and turn miraculously into meat, and the sweeper will sweep the meat into the ingredient storage and send egg shells to the rock crusher. 

3. Cooked Food Storage ---  This is where all the finished food is sent. The leftover food swept from the Great Hall is also sent back here.

Aquatuner Uptime <1%/cycle , So Don't worry about heating up.

I don't even wish to think on how you were able to setup this :) it's crazy! Great work.

Sandbox'd a design I usually go for.. the small white box to the left of the Gas Range is the evolution chamber (I don't know why people put a door on top; Also if you evolve Shove Voles you may want to use Obsidian tiles) When eggs hatch the shell is pooped out onto the floor. The second small box to the right of the Electric Grill is materials storage.. like grubfruit or meat and such. The auto sweepers do everything. Dupes just drop things into the fridge. Once cooked its final destination is the third box, surrounded by insulation tiles since it is well below freezing in there). I pressurize it with Chlorine. The kitchen area is pressurized with CO2 just in case something gets dropped on the floor out of reach and if you're worried about food left behind in the Great Hall you can also pressurize it with CO2 (although I have come to the conclusion that if you set your Refrigerators to 1kg for any foods, dupes will be satisfied without leaving food on the floor behind - kind of like restricting calories lol). The rest of the map is completely vacuumed.. so my dupes leave their beds and go into an exosuit, in which they eat, poop and shower lol.
