I think I've managed to come up with a way to introduce Wilba into DST while (mostly) avoiding the issues that the most people seem to agree block her from being a reasonable addition; namely:

  1. Some of her abilities are intrinsically tied to Hamlet-specific mechanics that don't translate to DST at all.
  2. She might tread on Woodie's toes a bit.
  3. We don't want just a "pig version" of Wurt or Webber-- each character should be entirely unique.
  4. Adding a full-blown Hamlet to DST, complete with Oincs, shop interiors, etc. would probably be unreasonable (especially for the sake of adding one character) and would arguably clash a bit with the rest of the game.

The detailed concept was a little bit long for a forum post, so refer to the attached PDF-- I'd be interested to hear people's thoughts (...well, the constructive ones, at least).
Here's a highly abbreviated summary (since I suspect most people aren't actually going to look at the document):

  • Wereform, stats, etc. as usual-- those mechanics are still viable
  • Add synergies with Woodie's wereforms such that Wilba adds to the character rather than detracting from him (a "were-support," if you will). More specifics in the attachment.
  • En lieu of an actual Hamlet, Wilba can construct her own "micro-hamlets" containing special pigmen that perform (very slow) automated farming and refinement of certain (inedible) resources, as well as a few other convenient functions to reduce the tedium of certain tasks-- after all, why should a princess have to get her hands (trotters?) dirty picking 60 grass tufts, resetting 60 tooth traps, or refining 20 pieces of rope when she could be out adventuring? For instance: a Farmer Pig will gradually collect and store grass from his farm under the proper conditions, providing an alternative to Grass Gecko farms or Leafy Meat Bulbs for "improved" grass collection (but without ruining balance or rendering either of the other methods obsolete, necessarily). Again, please refer to the attachment for the specific details before immediately dismissing the idea.
  • The pigs that spawn from Wilba's "hamlet" structures, including Guards, cannot be befriended and have various other limitations on their use, preventing Wilba from becoming a carbon-copy of Wurt or Maxwell, as her "minions" serve different purposes from (and ideally cannot ultimately be used the same way as) Merms or Shadow Puppets.

The only perk Wilba has that is tied to Hamlet is her ability to harvest city plants and hammer buildings without angering the guards.

Well, yeah, but that was a central feature of the character (and something that was cited as a major issue on other forums I'd looked at).
I won't say I didn't go a tad bit overboard with this little creative exercise, though. =)

No it wouldn't.

Totally agree. Hamlet mechanics should remain in hamlet

Meh, I would want Wilba in the game but don’t really want all the Hamlet mechanics.

Unless- they did like some small Hamlet themed Island or sky biome or something I mean by lore- Hamlet takes place in the skies above DST... and, with the first Return of Them Update we literally saw a chunk of the moon crash land into the ocean.

Who’s to say that chunk of moon didn’t also bring down a chunk of Hamlet in its fall?

Aka... it Hit Hamlet first, and then a part of Hamlet along with the moon chunk itself crashed into the water somewhere.

Er... yeah, that's kind of the point, here... =/
This concept doesn't use the trading / shopping / Oinc / erc. mechanics; she would instead build special pig-houses that help with certain tedious tasks, like collecting grass, refining common materials, or resetting traps-- that sort of thing.
The objective is to add some of the aesthetic feel of the hamlets without adding Hamlet mechanics or overhauling DST's resource economy.

Though I agree it would be neat to have some more Hamlet (and Shipwrecked!) content generally-- particularly some of the mobs (like Pogs) and turfs. I could see them making additional islands populated with some of the DLC content ... which would also make improve the interest / relevance of seafaring.
...but that's a tangent.
