I made thulecite crowns (almost) obsolete using math

Recommended Posts

While I applaud OP’s effort into making calculations, they’re a good example of how quantitative analysis can be misleading.

Yes, you could use more lower-tier armor but to effectively declare something obselete you’d need to consider

1) Accomplishing the same tasks

2) Alternative ways to use those resources

For me, the fact that crowns are the best head armor (plus the invulnerability bubble) gives them a strong niche as an endgame head armor, which is preferable to body armor due to magi in the chest slot.

Thule is relatively abundant compared to the number of rare gems you’d want to make into staves, and crowns are a good choice to use red gems on.

kiting is a waste of time in the mid-late game

This is such a weird take, I can't imagine stopping kiting entirely just because you can afford to craft better armor.

Plus like, if kiting is a waste of time, wouldn't getting the healing to refill the health loss from fights also be a waste of time? And wouldn't doing any of those fights in the first place be a waste of time, because you could spending it harvesting bee boxes for food? And wouldn't making those bee boxes be a waste of time when you could be permanently wandering around surviving off of butterflies and seeds and carrots and berries? How exactly do you define "wasting time" in a sandbox game?

it's just worst in terms of time effectiveness. If you have 2 bone armors all surface bosses except klaus can be tanked with full invincibility by using a few nightmare fuel. Add a thelu crown in case something ever goes wrong and you'd need minimal healing, easily covered by jellybeans. For your example, having beeboxes will be a lot more time-effective than hunting butterflies every day, despite the obvious initial time investment.

I think we are all trying to be somewhat efficient here to an extent. What's the purpose of the game in the long-run, other than be more efficient for efficiency's sake? For me after a certain point i just want to build and expand my projects, and i want to do those things with minimal distractions. I'd rather spend 30 seconds killing klaus for the 80th time than spend 3 minutes doing it; those add up.

time waste is defined by what you prioritize and care about, sure, but some bosses require you to kill them every year, or at least give you a worth it reward if you do so. So it's something most of the playerpool spends time with every year, i'm saying i'd rather spend less time with it; tanking is clearly better once it does not require more preparation than kiting.
