Regal
The recent edition of lunar stuffs are really cool. However I find it too difficult to manage to do moon stuff. Whenever I try to sail across, either I forget very important stuff behind or die at the middle. I barely manage to travel across the seas to the moon island but again the return trip is game over for me. Please help me answering the following questions to me, considering I am playing Wilson and I'm doing it solo. 1. First, what season or what day is the best to initiate the exploration? 2. How do I configure by boat (What things should I build on it?) 3. What items do I need to bring? 4. How do I manage my health, sanity and hunger in my trip? 5. Finally, if I do manage to find lunar island, what are the things should I do? Thanks Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/120716-need-help-with-moon-stuff/ Share on other sites
Well-met
1. Is the same as any other main land job. Autumn is best. Winter isn't so bad on the sea since you'll probably have a firepit on your boat. Spring means automatic destruction of your boat unless you have a rod. Summer isn't so bad since any smolder is easily containable but wasting precious space for a nitre pit is silly. 2. I'll let others take care of this point 3. I recommend many boat patches. This should be your n1 use for bee stingers. I also recommend to bring a couple moose fans to counter any sort of fire on the boat (removing the need for a flingo or pump). Bring a stack of 40 twigs aswell since they repair boats really good. 4. Same as the mainland. Jerky maybe? 5. Mine the 3 altar pieces and make the altar on a fissure. Collect all the moon glass and convert them to glass cutters. Axe is okay for toadstool. Stone fruits are extremely good and you should dig the bushes and bring them back to the mainland. Bring back bull kelps (they are plantable on the edges) and dig starfishes (good alternative to tooth traps). You can also bring back a ton of bone shards from mutant fish skeletons. That's about it for the moon island. I barely manage to travel across the seas to the moon island but again the return trip is game over for me. Please help me answering the following questions to me, considering I am playing Wilson and I'm doing it solo. (Remember that i'm not expert and my opinion is not incontestable.) 1. I wouldn't prefer summer because of firstly wildfires than can burn your boat secondly food spoils faster, thirdly endotermic fire and endothermic firepit are much more expensive than normal versions, finally it's the best season to explore ruins and caves. When you start new world spend first autumn on exploring, building basic capm and gathering resources e.g. for boat. During first Winter you can get walking cane, Tam-O-Shanter, Big pire of ice. Remember to kill Deerclops, his eye is important. You can start exploring sea in spring. In late game of couse autumn is good to deal with moon stuff. 2. Boat, one or two masts, anchor, steering wheel, firepit, crockpot and ice box (optional but recommended), lighting rod or lighting conductor (obligatory). 3. If you start exploring sea in spring take eyebrella to stay dry and tam-o-shanter to stay sane, chester for more storage, some log suits or football helmets, weapon, meatballs (maybe 10) something to heal (pierogi or healing salve), bug net, boat patchs and golden pickaxe. You also can take glommer goop. It's good way to heal on lunar island (The better you prepare, the easier the exploration will be) 4. As I wrote ealier you must be prepared to expediction, however if you are on sea you can pick kelps and catch fishes, you can also take razor to cut off barnecles from flowers during the night. If you feel hesitantly better avoid salt formations. To protect saniny you could cook sanity-restoring dishes but tam-o-shanter is the best choice. 5. If your sanity is low, Island will restore it. If sanity is high don't worry, Gestalts are not very dangerous they are only irritating. What you should do: 1. Explore all Island, 2, Find three pieces of lunar altar and assemble it, 3. Dig some rock avocado bushes (when you play solo one stack of them should suffice. 4. Obtain some moon glass 5. Cut off lunar trees and catch moon moths 6. Do as many glass cutters as you can lift, 7. Enjoy the atmosphere of lunar Island. Mrklli
1. It's possible to do it in every season, but like Well-met said, Autumn is the easiest season for everything. If you decide to go in Winter you need a fire pit and lots of fuel, and you need to be careful with mutant penguins when you find the moon island, they'll kill you. Spring is ok too if you can keep yourself dry and you absolutely need a lightning rod, which you can now have as a mast upgrade. Summer is doable, but I'd say it's the hardest season for your first voyage because you kinda need more preparation: endo-pit and flingomat/water pump/luxurious fan/lots of water balloons for wild fires. 2. I'm no expert on this but I like to have at least 2 masts, anchor, steering wheel, mast upgrades for light and lightning rod, couple of chests, crockpot, fridge, maybe an appropriate firepit depending on the season, drying rack, birdcage and tin fishing bin. It will be really hard to build all of these without mods or console commands. Luckily everything that's not in the sailing tab is only a luxurity. Don't bother with the last few items on the list if you find it too hard. 3. Yeah, boat patches and stuff to repair your boat! Also an oar and some fuel to keep Charlie away. It's nice to have a lantern or miner hat at this point too. Armor, weapons and healing items for those situations you can't just run away. Life giving amulets if you're lucky enough to find them or have shadow manipulator already. Food. 4. If you built a crockpot, the easiest way to manage health and hunger might be meatballs and fish sticks. It helps if you have sea fishing rod and can fish on the way, but it's not really necessary. You can bring meat and/or fish from the land and seaweed is an excellent filler. You can manage sanity with that drying rack: put there seaweed, it dries really fast and restores sanity pretty well + it's everywhere. If you don't have a drying rack, eat cooked greencaps or cactus for sanity. Don't make too long trips, it's ok to go back to land every couple of days, so you don't need that much food. 5. Stone fruits are the best. Collect them and maybe dig some bushes too, I'm just usually too scared of the disease so I just try to plant my own bushes from the seeds. I also like to collect bull kelps from the ground and plant them in the water near my base, because seaweed is so cool. I usually don't bother with the craftables. It makes the sailing so much easier if you have a vague idea of where you should look for the island. If you want to minimize the time spent on the ocean you should first explore the land. The map is always shaped as a rectangular, so if you know where the land is you can also guess where the borders of that rectangular might be, and where could be a large enough patch of unexplored ocean that could have the island in it. Go sail there first. Also the shape of the coastline is usually a pretty good hint: search for two different peninsulas with a long straight part of coastline that faces towards a similar place on a different peninsula. The moon island is really often pretty much in middle of those too peninsulas. The world gen doesn't always gift you with these kind of peninsulas though, so you might have to search the harder way after all. When you sail keep an eye on the color of the water. It's very light shade of blue when you're near land or the island, and darker when you're far away from all shores. I drew y'all a freakishly ugly picture that hopefully helps somebody find the moon island a bit faster. The island doesn't always position itself so neatly in the middle of those peninsulas, but still very often and it's good to know. Deleted Profile
One of the minimum boat design to survive year-round: masts, wheel and anchor,a firepit to provides light and heat in winter, a crockpot, an icebox to keep food fresh and cool down thermal stones for summer, lightning conductor ( or lightning rod), fire pump or flingomatic to extinguish smolder or fire, some storages( chest and fishtinbin). Everything else is optional but other structures can aid you in your ocean travel. Rock shark is frequently raid the boat. It could deals up to 180 damage,so bring some armors. If you have a Wendy around, you should build a sisturn on boat, Sisturn produces an aura of +25sanity/min for everyone near by,as long as it decor with 4 petals ( the petals perish in 6 days). One of the best food to manage sanity and health is Surf and Turf and the ingridient for it is easy to get on the ocean. Uses bugnet to catch live moon moths form Lunar island, they can be planted to reproduce Lunar trees elsewhere. The moon moth can be used to adopt a Mothling at petden as well. Cheggf
16 hours ago, Regal said: 1. First, what season or what day is the best to initiate the exploration? Any. The boat lessens the effects of the seasons due to bringing things along with you. Just make sure to have a lightning rod if you think it could become/currently is spring while you're sailing. The only season that really stands out as needing you to do anything is summer. You'd either need a flingo and slowing the boat down whenever something starts smoldering, or putting things out with your hands. An inexperienced captain could crash the ship while trying to extinguish something. 16 hours ago, Regal said: 2. How do I configure by boat (What things should I build on it?) Really depends on what you want to do, how long you want to be out there, what your goals are. If all you want to do is find the lunar island and bring stuff back not much. Just have something to prevent death from darkness (Fire pit, scaled furnace, lantern/mining hat & duplicates/fuel, etc), death from relevant seasonal challenges for (fire pit / scaled furnace for winter, ice box / endo pit for summer, lightning rod for spring), 2 masts, a wheel, and an anchor. Some chests, an ice box, and a crock pot wouldn't hurt. More than that is up to you. My boats usually look something like this, which is super unnecessary if you just want to find the island. 16 hours ago, Regal said: 3. What items do I need to bring? Need? Nothing. A sea fishing rod will make the whole food thing easier, although maybe that's the sailor in me talking. You could put an ice box on the boat and just store a bunch of food just fine for way less effort than fishing. If you want to take proper advantage of the island you'll need some pickaxes and shovels, or materials to make them. Also obviously anything you'd normally need like the Eyebrella if it's spring or the Tam o'Shanter if you don't want to be insane. Boat patches to fix holes in your boat are also pretty handy. The better you are at sailing the less you need them, but I'll always have some before I head out. 16 hours ago, Regal said: 4. How do I manage my health, sanity and hunger in my trip? Same way as on land, you can store them in an ice box on the boat to keep them fresh. You can also fish fish. 16 hours ago, Regal said: 5. Finally, if I do manage to find lunar island, what are the things should I do? Take all the beached kelp to make a kelp farm at your base. Shovel stone fruit bushes that aren't cracked to move 'em over too. Pickaxe some meteors. Maybe take some anenemys. 13 hours ago, Mrklli said: 4. If you built a crockpot, the easiest way to manage health and hunger might be meatballs and fish sticks. Due to the abundance of fish Surf 'n' Turf is rather easy to make. If you aren't using ice or something as a filler and are just using a bunch of fish it'd be better to make. Both are really good for health options, though, the ocean is really easy to heal on.
