MooksMookin
I've been browsing the forums, youtube, steam community, etc. for a long time while trying to get used to the game. I've logged 345 hours into it so far, and I'm still unable to get past that mid-game hump because I don't know what to focus on next. I've tried looking up tutorials, but all the ones out there are either for beginners or assume you know everything about the game already and what goes into it and where to build stuff. Does anyone know any good tutorials for mid-game stuff like industrial bricks, battery boxes, refinement areas, geyser/volcano taming, power grids, or how to get liquid oxygen/hydrogen for rockets? DonDegow
To be fair, useful teaching content is often 2 minutes worth of a 30 min video you magically stumbled upon. It's kinda hard to know what to search and then to find content that answer these questions. Also, not all players have the same definition of "mid-game" in ONI; is it when temperature becomes an issue? is it when you have access to steel? to oil biome? to plastic? right when you discover the space biome? This basically makes any "mid-game ultimate tutorial" video wrong in some aspects. I suggest you to take the time to find out what are you actually looking for; temperature, food or oxygen is an issue? need to scale up your power generation? how to start making steel? If your main question is "what should I do?", try to identify potential flaws in your current systems and search/figure out solution before it becomes an issue; algae is not a sustainable oxygen source for instance, better switch to water produced O2 when you still have 5 tons left of algae rather than finding out your dupes can't breathe, "oh **** quick build a temporary fix". Hope this helps, if you have a specific question, everyone will be happy to answer it or provide useful links.

The only exception is for solar panel where you can put 4 batteries / 16 bunkers doors. Quote refinement areas For refined metal : Petrol refinery : Quote geyser/volcano taming Geysers : Volcanos : - Geothermy : - Glitchy version : - Metal volcano : Quote liquid oxygen/hydrogen First, you need steam rocket to obtain fullerene, then refine it with the Molecular Forge and obtain Super Coolant. You can obtain super coolant with steam + oxylite + cargo. Then AT + turbine + super coolant expose to oxygen and hydrogen. https://imgur.com/trlnm59

We will need more specific information to help you, in mid game the possibilities start to get overwhelming in the beginning. You will find a lot of people here willing to help, just state the nature of your problem and you will get useful advice. Doń‘t be shy to open new threads with the nature of your emergency. Usually you will find some help before people throw their ‚Build this! My ultimate exploit design!‘ in your face and capture your thread for their usual ‚I know better than you‘ discussion My First attempts failed because -I had too many dupes too fast, was always operating on the edge Any problem I did not even know existed derailed my colony within a few cycles. - Temperature issues. I had no idea how to handle the more global problems at first. - Automation. I was too lazy and/or incompetent to finish my designs by automating everything so that I did not have to pay attention to a subsystem anymore. At some point it was too complex for me to keep track of every construction site I left behind.
KittenIsAGeek
Generally mid-game is where I've managed to get all my dupe's initial needs (air, food, etc) sorted out and now I can explore and experiment. So if I'm using electrolyzers for oxygen, then I'll have a renewable source of water. I'll also have some sort of power fail-safe set up so that even if EVERYTHING else fails, I'll still be producing oxygen for my dupes. Mid-game is also when I have enough dupes to take care of all my base needs, with enough downtime that if I give a build or dig job somewhere, it isn't going to hurt my base AND it isn't going to take forever for the dupes to get there. Often this happens after I've built some automation to handle small stuff like throwing sand in water sieves.
TheMule
Francis John on youtube has a tutorial series that covers all stages of the game. It's a good starting point. As with any YT video, it can't be updated, so some stuff can be outdated, being made before the current game update. Also, the meta may have changed too. And FJ himself may be doing things slightly differently these days (improved designs and such). Also other content creators may have different build that you like more. For example, I like Gamers Handbooks' power grid, Brothgar's generic volcano tamer for magma volcanos, FJ's hatch stable design, and metal volcano tamers, my own variation on the heat exchanger for oil boliers, my own design for rocket silos with FJ's automation. I've tried to improve all of them, not always successfully. My first advice would be to rush things. Don't care about fancy good looking or hyper optimized builds. Get stuff going. And learn from failures. But at the same time don't go completely blind. It's ok to copy a simple build, if it solves a problem. You don't need to understand and master every single facet of the game in one go.
