EzLo54 Posted October 27, 2019 Share Posted October 27, 2019 I've been wondering the past few days, why are there no Curio Chests replacing common skins like last year? It's way more rewarding getting 4 skins at once rather than a Forge skin duplicate that shouldn't even drop at this time of year or shoes/gloves/skirts I've gotten for like the 100th time already. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only person disappointed in this year's skins and their rate of dropping. I think I've only gotten 3 Halloween skins, including 1 daily drop. There's a bunch of Hallowed stuff I don't own, so I was hoping I'd mostly be dropping those. keats95 Posted October 29, 2019 Share Posted October 29, 2019 Also I seem to remember someone from Klei talking about the fact that Curio Chests were introduced mainly because there were so many profile icons and portrait backgrounds once upon a time. (I believe they're mostly a relic of the past? Still available to weave but they don't drop and no new ones have really been introduced that I'm aware of outside of Twitch drops.) So Curio Chests used to circumvent the disappointment of going to unwrap your gift and seeing nothing but a crummy profile icon, at least with the chests you might get three trashy profile icons and one good clothing/skin item. I wonder if they really are a dead concept completely, considering the Treasury option is still in the menu? I agree about the drop rates though, I even saved up all my duplicates to trade in once the hallowed nights started and all I got in return was a bunch of Buttoned Shirts and Oxford Shoes, I was very sad. FInally, you're slightly more likely to get rarer items than you were before. I think it's a better trade off. SonicDen220 Posted October 29, 2019 Share Posted October 29, 2019 The one bad thing about curio chests is how instead of replacing all drops, they only replace Common/Classy drops. So if you just so happen to get a Classy Spiffy or above, you'd be missing out on 3 more items of any rarity. Edit: misremembered, common drops were replaced with classic chests and classy drops were replaced with event chests. This probably explains why I haven’t gotten any skins at all today- which is disappointing considering this is Hallowed Nights and the chances of getting Halloween Themed skins are increased. Console gamers do not have a skin trade market like PC and Steam so the ONLY way we are getting these skins is by complete blind luck... OR buying the (hopefully not limited time Only) 20$ Hallowed Nights Collection package deal. I do not have 20$ to spare right now.. but I’m pretty sure it’s the first thing I’d buy if I had the cash for it Until then I gotta hope I get some good items during the limited time frame their drop rates are increased! I didn't get any of the Elegant drops because they're supposed to be rare. You're not guaranteed an elegant. No idea how it works on console, but the system is definitely better on PC after curio removal. You get more presents in total and the % drop chance for rarities increased across the board. Old system drop rates Common: 68% Classy: 23.00% Spiffy: 6.00% Distinguished: 2.50% Elegant: 0.50% Current drop rates Common: 52.7% Classy: 26.0% Spiffy: 13.0% Distinguished: 6.0% Elegant: 2.3% This doesn't account for events which usually increase drop rates, so they're probably a little better for Hallowed Nights.
