"This duplicant will gain 1 moral when learning ___ skills" - question

Recommended Posts

Does the dupe only get the morale bonus when they're learning a skill, or do they get the bonus when they're doing the skill?

What I mean: A dupe with an interesting building - do they get the morale bonus any time they build stuff, or only when they're learning the construction skill tree? If the latter, does the bonus disappear as soon as they complete the skill tree?

Thank you. Does this mean a dupe with 3 interests will get a +3 morale boost and a dupe with only 1 interest will only get a +1 morale boost?

Sort of. Think of it this way; the net morale upkeep is 0 for tier 1 skills if they are interested and +1 if they are not interested.

Tier 2 interested. = +1 morale requirement

Tier 2 not interested. = +2 morale requirement

The morale bonus only applies when you spend skill points.

Don't forget that the upkeep is additive with all tiers. EX. tier1+tier2+tier3=+6morale upkeep uninterested, +3 upkeep if interested.

That's exactly what I needed to know, thank you.

Another way to think about it, when training a dupe for a skill they are interested in, it costs them 1 less need to learn it.

Seeing as proportion of morale vs. morale need doesn't matter, just that you have at least as much of one as the other, this is a valid way to view it.

It reduces the burden of that skill line. It effectively costs 1 less per tier. Remember that the higher tiers cost more than 1 stress.

A suit/shipping/scientist is a great astronaut since it covers their full tree for something like 8 less stress. I’m not remembering all the traits.

Does that mean it is not wise to learn everything if the skills are probably never gonna be used? e.g have every dupe learn cooking cos they have skill points and nothing else to learn.

Yes, that's what that means. The more skills a dupe learns, the more morale they need to negate stress. When you're in the skill screen, a dupe's red bar should be the same or smaller than their green bar. When you hover over a skill they haven't learned yet, it'll show you what their green and red bars will become if you pick that skill. I'm also just figuring this out.

Skill Scrubber is a great building because of all this, if you make a mistake, perhaps your meat generation isn't as good as you thought, your decor bonus distorted your current morale, Or if you simply don't want to build towards mechatronics (since "operate" isn't the most useful skill early), The Skill scrubber gives you your morale back, so you can fix errors without killing the dupe.

Note: It is quite pricey (Watts + duplicant time), so it's up to the player to decide if these risks are worthwhile.

Edit: I thought I'd add, since I remember not being sure of this before using it, the scrubber does put the points back in the dupe's point pool, allowing redistribution immediately, and any stat points gained by experience (as opposed to skills) is kept
