Gunpowder Malbatross too simple

The boss can be a difficult (more precisely troublesome) fight. He/she keeps pushing the boat away so that we cannot hit him is a big problem and I guess where the co-operation comes in where one player steer while others fight him/her. Well, this is what Klei intended, but she can be easily dealt with since she only have 5000 health which requires 25 gun powders.

This is what I did. I spawned her in the sea but the principle is the same. Grab the panflute from Glommer or make one, gather 25 gunpowder by spoil 25 eggs (from caged birds or winter seagull), make an extra boat to support the gun powder. Since he/she is neutral to start with, it cant even be easier, get closer, put him/her to sleep, then build the new boat next to her, put the gunpowder down and ignite, run to the other boat. and BOOM! problem sorted. 4 boards, 10% panflute and 25 gun powder and all is done.

Since the feathers do not burn, this method can be used to farm her, for the first fight where we need the blueprint, just put down 24 gun powder and get 2 blow darts ready.

I think the boss need some extra work to prevent such an easy fight. all dst bosses such as bq, fw or toad cannot be killed by gun powder and I believe this is what Klei is after ( prevent us from easy killing bosses)

1. Make her fly away if teleported by purple staff so that buoyant fight is a must (just to have the fun)

2. Make her sleep under water so that gunpowder cannot be exploited. (or gun powder resistant)

3. Make the fight more interesting and more solo-preventive, such as allow her to summon some minions, or dive under and punch holes through boat. Or she may fly away and grab some hounds/minion to toss at the boat which deals damage and summons minons

All the bosses have that component. I'm pretty sure all it does it prevent dealing more than 8000 damage at once—so it's pointless for bosses with less than that amount.

It should be noted you get inadvertently punished for doing this method since you will receive less feathers overall. You need 24 to craft the sail, and any attack makes it have a chance to drop feathers, so using lower damage weapons will generally be more profitable then just steamrolling it with whatever is your best choice. It also doesn’t drop that many upon death, further encouraging you to use other methods.

Those bosses you mentioned are raid bosses, bosses built for multiple people.

 

Malbatross isn't and shouldn't be a raid boss, it's just not worth fighting her then.

(as in shouldn't have a high health pool)

You could say "well just give her better drops then"

but why? there's no reason, she's fine the way she is.
