Is Ehtanol - Petrolium Generator system not supposed to be self sustaining

Recommended Posts

Taking into consideration latest update of launch (353289) branch i made some calculations around trees/ethanol distiller/petroleum generator and stuff.

So playing on Arboria map it is known to be in lack of water at the beginning and i tried to make some polluted water with use of trees and Petroleum generator and found out that:

  • to keep up 1 Petroleum generator you need 2000 g/s of Ethanol
  • assuming 1 Ethanol distiller produces 500 g/s of Ethanol, we need 4 Ethanol distillers to keep 1 Petroleum Engine running
  • assuming 1 Ethanol distiller consumes 1000 g/s of Lumber, according to 353289 update

Arbor Trees can not grow more than 5 branches at once

    so 1 domesticated Arbor tree produces 333.(33) kg/cycle of Lumber (300kg per branch * 5 branches / 4.5 life cycle) which is 555.55 g/s of Lumber (333.33 kg/cycle * 1000 / 600 sec(according to wiki 1 cycle is 600 sec)) in perfect situation. Now we have that 1 Ethanol distiller needs 1.8 Arbor tree (1000 g/s / 555.55 g/s) to keep running nonstop

  • 1 Petroleum engine == 4 Ethanol distillers == 7.2 Arbor trees (1.8 * 4)

  • 1 domesticated Arbor tree needs 116.67 g/s of Polluted water (70 kg/cycle * 1000  /  600 sec)

  • 7.2 Arbor trees == needs 840 g/s of Polluted water, assuming 1 Petroleum engine gives 750 g/s of Polluted water we have a need of external source of polluted water into our system

Is it designed to be not self sustaining on purpose, to get needed lack of Polluted water from Slicksters (Crude oil) -> Oil Refinery (Natural Gas) -> Natural Gas generator (Polluted water and Carbon Dioxide) -> Petroleum generator  (Polluted water)?

But the sole purpose of this was to get my dupes clean water from petroleum generator, feeding polluted dirt to pokeshell from ethanol distiller to get sand and use it with water sieve. But now it's getting a bit complicated for me  and the only option in my current situation use desalinator.

And if Arbor tree will grow 7 branches at once we will get just a bit of 148 g/s excessive polluted water from this system.

Free water with wild trees, yes.

Asking for free water, power, dirt and CO2 from an introductory industrialized process seems a little off to begin with.

You can be sure the change was intentional though.

So 7.2 wild trees can produce enough ethanol to feed 15 bean plants. Admittedly there is a good bit of dupe labor and and power spent to get the ethanol made and down to the proper temp but if your power is sustainable, which can be done with more wild trees, that makes things very interesting.

I think wild trees/pips are going to be kind of mandatory for decent ethanol generation, at least until you find a 840/s polluted water source (carbon skimmer i guess?)

I'm not sure why these kinds of discussion are still going on after what we saw happen to the NatGas/FertSynth loop got the ax...  Any small feedback loop will be nerfed.  Only multi-system loops will be tolerated, and those will usually have some moderate inclusion of Dupe labor.

The only reason the Water payoff from Petro/Sour Gas Boilers is tolerated is due to the massive setup required and, for ease of use, heavy reliance on Space Age materials to function efficiently.
