Spear and Glass Cutter have same TDP

Incase anyone is asking what TDP means, it means Total Damage Potential. TDP is the total amount of damage a weapon can do before it breaks.
Weapon Damage x Weapon Durability = TDP
Note for the TDP mentioned in this thread, it is assuming the player is Wilson, or a charcter with the same damage multiplier as Wilson. Of course Wigfrid or mighty Wolfgang have higher TDP whereas Wes, Wendy and wimpy Wolfgang have lower TDP.

Now onto the thread.
The Spear and Glass Cutter have the same TDP, despite the glass cutter doing twice the damage.

Spear TDP
34 Damage x 150 Uses = 5100 TDP

Glass Cutter TDP
68 Damage x 75 Uses = 5100 TDP

I guess the Glass Cutter looks cool and kills enemies twice as fast as a spear, but as far as TDP is concerned it's a glorified spear.
The one use I see for it is as mighty Wolfgang you could use it in place of a dark sword to get the 2nd scale off Dfly.

It is way more useful since:

-the spear requires harder to get materials, such as rope,

-the glass cutter is more useful in getting rid of the enemy quicker, therefore saving the player time and potentially hp

-the glass cutter is cheap and you can easily stockpile the materials for multiple cutters with just 1 trip to the island. This ties together with point 1, in which i say rope is a harder to get material, as you generally need to use your grass for other things.

 

i guess we can agree it comes down to which you like more in the end, whether to have a more durable weapon, or a quicker one

Glass Cutter has 150 uses if you use it against Shadow Creatures, Ancient Fuelweaver (minions and FW variants), and the Shadow Pieces. It's an early game Dark Sword imo and after a certain point, you're probably better off keeping Dark Swords mats in your inventory to make Dark Swords wherever you want, rather than mass producing and placing these at ideal locations just for some extra durability.

Glass Moon Axe though is pretty good for chopping trees though.

I was not aware of the perk against shadow creatures.

I guess it makes a good item for NF Farming, but once you got a ton of NF you can easilly switch to dark swords and save the time of slowly sailing back to the island to craft more.

Rope is three grass, and you don’t have to get on a boat to pick it. Spears are the cheapest weapon in the game!

TDP is nice, but DPS is just as important, the glass cutter is better then the spear.

Now dark sword and glass cutter is a proper argument, dark sword has more costly recipe (Don't down play that living log, that stuff takes time to get even when trying to farm for it) whilist the glass cutter has a cheaper, but more out of the way material cost.

Whats my point? Uh, they're equal. Nothing wrong with using either one.

Wouldn't mind the total uses of the Glass Cutter being bumped from 75 to 100 to add a bit more oomph to them, though I wouldn't be particularly miffed if they left the cutter as is. Especially if more glass weapons are coming in future updates.
