You should also do a performance benchmark and see how much impact the extra pipe connections are adding. Basically, test FPS over time for the current layout, then destroy all the extra connections, but keep a segment of pipe that follows the same path and has the same length, then run your test again. I know, it's shocking information =) If there is no out in the bottom of pipe intersection, it will ignore that way.
