minespatch
I think the critters after a course of 200 days should grow into their adult forms like the tallbird. It would give the player a chance to befriend a dragonfly, varg/hound, catcoon etc. It would give players who are skeptical over the existence of the edition of pets given a chance to give critters a second chance. (the verging is a Varg, so it'll grow into a Varg (unless hounds is just small vargs?) but if this will be a thing, we need to feed them, and tame them like we tame Beefalos (otherwise it would be too easy)

Though imagine the bonuses a grown up pet would be to those who take the time to nurture their pets. Maybe the ONI team can give some pointers on the critter farming/ranching mechanics to the DST team.

[...] As far as I understand, vargs are "alpha" hounds (which is why they can control hounds), I think some characters have quotes linking the two? Although I am not 100% sure. --- As for the main topic... I don't quite like it. Even if the critters are not able to help you in fights (which is a can of worms on it's own), they will just become screen wasters. Just imagine a dragonfly following you everywhere, taking roughly a quarter of the screen... Yeah... Or your hound pet being confused with a regular horde of hounds (this one is kinda fixable with just adding some weird colors to the "tamed" hound, but still). I think critters are fine as is. A decorative feature that you take if you want. Heck, I think the small-bird should be an adoptable critter just like the others.

(no-one will ever want to ride an ewecus).
