Critter feeder never supplied

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am trying to start ranching hatches, and for some reason, neither my rancher nor any of my suppliers would ever fill the feeder in their stable even though a food has been selected and they have nothing else to do. Saving and reloading does not help. Are there any additional prerequisites for them to use it?

Thanks!

What's the priority set to?

What kind of hatch food are you trying to supply?

Can you provide a screenshot of the feeder with the selected food shown?

Screenshot answers all the questions I believe. Currently no hatch is in the stable since the one I had died in the meantime... Layed an egg first thankfully so I won't have to import hatches.

The real question is how are going your dupe to deliver sand if isn't a way in your cube? Under you have a picture of my wild bugs farm, and my hatch storage area.

Post edit:

And why you save dirt and why the grooming station? The perfect criter is the wild one (no maintenance)

is there a door for dupes to get in?

There is a reachable door, it's hidden on the screen.

Filling Critter feeders is a Storage job - do you have dupes who have a high priority in those tasks?

Ohhhh, that might be it. I thought it is a supply or ranching one.

If you keep the dirt tiles then they can burrow at night and they don't feel crowded during that time so their egg production goes up for the time they are under the soil.

I though the burrowing reduced metabolism so decreased coal production. Though in all fairness I learned that a long time ago so it may be out of date.

You could be right, I've just seen some farms that use the dirt to up the egg production by bypassing the crowded de-buff.  But I would think they are only doing that to farm the meat and not coal?  Personally I have no problems keeping the numbers up and just take their coal!  Or in the case of the smooth hatches their refined ore.  I ran out of raw ore because of 20+ smooth hatches... poor things were starved to death before I would dig another patch of ore!

don't they burrow during the day?

Which is also better for egg production.

Honestly I'd do it more if only we could place tiles like dirt.

It does bugger up the Critter Sensor though, as burrowed hatches aren't in the room.

you can place tiles of dirt

when you cook slime, algae, or fertilizer, it turns into a tile of dirt

Yeah, but it's not something I can just order a dupe to construct, and I'm not building a cooker just for it. (Plus I keep my algae for Pacu. All of it.)

Precisely, and since I don't care about their production of coal as I plan to just breed and slaughter them, that seemed like the optimal solution since I did not want to run a pacu loop. Which reminds me to put an incubator in there.
