anosu
Just because we can't build with it doesn't mean it should be useless. At least make it so hatches can eat it or maybe refineable into sand. Use it for something like you used chlorine as an antiseptic when it used to be an annoying useless gas.
yoakenashi
It is already useful; it’s used in producing insulation.

When you have hundreds of tons of abyssalite and insulation is so expensive, it's practically useless. It needs another use, like hatch-feeding or refining into something else like OP suggests
Sasza22
Maybe smooth hatches could eat it for like a 5% conversion into tungsten.

SharraShimada
The problem here would be, the players would feed all the abysalite to hatches, and then they discovery that was a bad idea, because they need it to make insulation, but run out of it. The problem is not, that we have no other use for abysalite, but there is too much of it on the map. It should be reduced by 9/10th and it would be still plenty of it availlable. Abysallite was introduced as the perfect insulator, and only be minable by seasoned miners. Then the use got taken from us, and insulation was introduced. I´m fine with this, but the amounts of abysalite no longer make any sense. Long story short, the system of use has changed, but the system of providing kept untouched. I suggest, they remove abysallite mostly from generated maps, and we would have to retrieve it from rocket destinations as well, if we need more. You can get abyssalite from space as well. So it wouldn`t be that bad. 8 hours ago, SharraShimada said: The problem is not, that we have no other use for abysalite, but there is too much of it on the map. The amount of abyssalite on the map is needed for it to keep the proper temperature balance. Making the walls thinner would let through more heat. Reducing the tile mass would make it heat up faster. While it can be done there is still a lot of abyssalite needed just to ensure ice biomes won`t melt before you discover them.
calibayzone
Tungsten is renewable without any real exploits (by melting non-insulated insulation pipes with super hot niobium from forges), but I 100% agree we will never, ever use up the 100s of tonnes of this material.
