NSAiswatchingus
Hello everyone! I've been working on a little something over on PS4 and wanted to share it with the community at large. The World of Hamton! In this world, new players are instantly set in the town of Hamton. With gold being used as a currency, players can buy gear from shops, acquire more gold from doing "quests" and eventually earn/buy their own home in this world. With there being no mods for console, I'm pretty much stuck in town while the server is set to public to make sure everything runs smoothly. I usually set the world to Public in Autumn, Friends only in Winter and Spring, and Close the world for Summer. Surprisingly enough, griefers aren't all that frequent of an occurrence. Most players either jump right on board with the world rules or run around a bit to have a look and leave without ruining anything. If you have any suggestions, questions, or ideas on how to make the world run better let me know! Thanks for watching! Edit: There's a few things not shown in the video so that the actual in game experience isn't lessened for those that join. Also, here's an IMGUR ALBUM for anyone that prefers to view megabases that way Welcome everyone to to the album tour for the world of Hamton on PS4. This is my attempt at bringing some elements of the new Hamlet DLC to Don't Starve Together. This world is a bit different than most as far as survival being the main goal. In Hamton, players can relax a bit by having a safe haven to always return to and stock back up for the next adventure. The ultimate goal here is for players to become an established citizen of Hamton while doing quests, getting better gear, and eventually earning their own house. Using Gold as a currency, players can use the different "shops" in the towns to acquire more gear. The shop chests have the item to be bought in the left column, the price in the middle column, and a spot for players to drop their payment in the left column. The quests in town are mostly fetch quests of various resources. Either presenting a boss figure sketch or paying 40 gold allows the player to pick out an unclaimed house in the world. Players can also build their own house wherever they want outside of the town walls. Exploring the world is encouraged as various "quest givers" are scattered through out it. Their rewards are much greater than a typical quest. This world is about steady progress every time the player joins. No one will ever be asked to drop their stuff before leaving. Every new player is offered a little starter pack to kick off their adventure. Some twigs, grass, flint, a tool, and a little bit of gold to start using the shops from the get go. At the Infirmary, players can give themselves a place to respawn, pick up a revive for a friend, or get back to full health after a death. All for a small fee of course. Players can visit the Library to utilized the knowledge housed there (Alchemy Engine), and grab a map of the land. Books available for those who can read them. Free basic spears. Stronger weapons and armor available for a reasonable cost. All weapons are made in-house with the Blacksmith's forge (Scaled Furnace) The Inn provides a luxurious lobby with a small sanity station. Players can take a room to rest/heal and have a temporary place to put their excess items. Anything left behind in the Inn chests will be taken to the Storeroom. The Magic Shop offers players a quick way to get their hands on magic items to help their time in Hamton. Use the celestial orb or the Shadow Manipulator to do your own Magical crafting. There is a tool for every job and a job for every tool. Players can buy some more helpful tools for their next quest here. Players can get the right clothes for the season at a fair cost. Some finer clothes for a higher price are also available. Here is where the town quests are posted. As these are completed they are cycled out for new quests. Players just need to let the host know a quest has been completed and they'll be given their reward once the quest items have been given to the host. The food is free at the Hamton Restaurante. The host keeps the fridges full for visitors of the town. Players can also purchase various bundled packs of food for the appropriate amount. The newest shop to move into Hamton. Players can finally buy health potions, sanity potions, and a little something to help their fires burn brighter. Cave Entrance, Fishing Hole, and Hall of Hunters shown. You can always find pigs willing to do a job for food at the Hall of Hunters. Entering from the gates to the Wildlands and back to Inner Hamton. Some player houses shown. Shout out to PairedRabbit. A couple of high class pigs live in the Hamton Manor. They have an affinity for Ancient artifacts. This is one of the special quest givers. Retrieving a lost family amulet from the caves and returning it to the Hamton Manor will give the player a great reward. Home of the Beefalo Fanatic, players can come here to get supplies for Beefalo Domestication. For the unruly players, the host can quickly telepoof them to the prison for a sort of "timeout" if a ban doesn't feel warranted. Occasionally the town of Hamton needs to let off some steam and a tournament will be held. Players can sign up ahead of time to compete in 1v1 PvP face offs for powerful in game loot and the right to stay at the Hall of Champions. Victors of PvP events win the contents of the scaled chest and rights to use the Hall of Champions. At the Ranch, Players can put in the work to pick their own grass and berries, or helping with the Volt Goat herd. Beyond the gates of this fortified pass lies a massive desert. At it's heart sits a small respite from the vast nothingness. A small abandoned town rests deep in the Old Wood. All of Hamton has been walled off to protect it's citizens from outside dangers. The Bunnymen are a powerful yet dangerous ally. In the deepest recesses of the Bunnymen Woods lies a small collective of shops ran by the Bunnymen. Items scavenged from around the world and underneath it. With a little leg work players can use the shop to turn a profit. If it's what they're into, players can visit the Seed shop to get started with some farming. If a player needs a specific crop for a recipe or Beefalo taming, that's available too for purchase. This massive road connects Hamton to the other side of the world where the Pig King is located. Off the beaten path from the High Road lives a retired adventurer. He offers a reward for anyone willing to recover his cane from the caves. This cozy camp leisurely sits between the Stairs to Hamton and the Pig King. This is area connects with Carruyt Village as well. Hidden in the caves, The Smuggler's Den offers useful spelunking gear and other hidden services. This shop keeper only accept gems for payment but his wares are worth the high price. Not finding the knowledge you seek at the Hamton Library? Try the Blueprint Shop. They might have exactly what a player is looking for. Hutch rentals available or just take a moment to recoup from a trip to the ruins. Road to Toadstoo..oh, nevermind. Hornete
This is super nice and creative! I love everything! 2 questions 1. How do you track what every player has bought? surely you can't be in every corner of the world so People can simply take the gold and items from the chests, How do you deal with that? 2. Do you ever plan to make a ruins area? Pretty good ideas you can do in the ruins! Do you ever plan to make a ruins area? Pretty good ideas you can do in the ruins! 1. I don't. It's largely dependent on the honor system. Consoles can really only handle 4 people at once in a developed world like this so it's not ever too many players to manage. I use the towns myself enough that I check all the shop inventories pretty regularly. The non skinned chests in the corners of the shops hold replacement items or materials to make them. If anything is taken without the correct gold amount left behind I can usually figure out who it was pretty quickly and deal with them accordingly. 2. Eventually! It would be cool to return the entire ruins to their former glory. zergologist
Do you have pvp on the server to deal with those unruly? And have there ever been times where a bearger had ruined the town? How many pigs exist (if any)? I prefer to have PvP on just for the sake of fun, but I tend to turn it off unless I'm doing something with the Arena. No Bearger problems yet! Everyone has been pretty good about getting to an open area when they start to hear the growls. I've actually just left the Bearger alone in an unused biome for the last like 700 days and no one has found him. There's some where around 25 pigs all included. And what about the yearly deerclops and meese/geese? Plus it's a reoccurring quest to get wood so I'm never too hard up for wood. Deerclops isn't much of an issue. He's only spawned directly inside the base once and was promptly put down before causing much damage. Goose/Goose, on the other hand, are the bane of this world. Every in game year, I hop on my Beefalo the first day of Spring and clear out the Geese that spawn. The Ranch area has 3 spawns and there's another right next to the caves entrance so you can imagine what would happen if they were left unchecked. zergologist
What was the worst catastrophie to happen to hamton? And how many skeletons do you get over the course of 2000 days? NSAiswatchingus
Lmao, SO many skeletons. With all the new players that I let run around I never have to worry about having enough bone shards. The worst catastrophe was probably a glitch I must have triggered once. A friend and I had spent 7 days building up the base after a ruins run and took a break. When I logged back on those 7 days were never saved which I had never seen on console before. The base gets burnt down at least once every Autumn when I open it to public. I don't even consider that a catastrophe since I can just ban and roll back though.
