Vacuum food storage

Recommended Posts

This is where I store food. Can be extended to fit how ever many fridges you want. If you build it at the edge of your base you can just continue to mine outwards for more space.
I usually just plan my base around the water you start with so I can flood the areas that I want with water like this without having to pump it in. All my greenhouses and the kitchen are right next to it.

It's easy to set up early when you don't have access to chlorine etc. only takes a few seconds to pump air out of a 4 tile space.

Nice idea but this seems like a good way to create stress problems, why not just trap some co2 before digging out too much?

tbh I kinda like making vacuum air locks just for the hell of it lol. I just find excuses to make them.

Are you powering those fridges? If so then the atmosphere they're in doesn't matter. It will always remain fresh when powered so they'd be no need for making water locks etc.

Atmosphere doesn't make a difference to fridge stored food? I thought it might give it an extra bonus in a sterile environment.

If that's the case it's still useful if you don't want to waste power on them.

I typically use water locks to for storage of materials that can sublimate, like bleach stone or polluted dirt. But that's a consequence of how I make them as I, except for the very beginning, don't use bottle emptiers to make water locks unless I have to use oil/petroleum due to heat considerations. Instead I use a storage compactor that I set to store 1kg of polluted ice, and when that melts (almost instantly), set it to store snow/regular ice. That forms a water lock that will not cause the dupes to get fully wet but just have soggy feet.

That's great and all but the "Sopping Wet" debuff is pretty nasty when it's even easier to setup something like this which fills naturally.

What do you use the egg cracker for? Eggs crack by themselves if left in a storage for 10 cycles.

If they're powered, it makes no difference, no.

Actually it does. Refridgerated food still spoils but slower. It doesn`t spoil at all if placed in sterile atmospthere refridgerated or not. But in normal atmosphere reridgerated food will spoil eventually.

You can also store food in regular ration boxes or on the ground tmeperature below 4oC and it gets the refridgerated bonus outside the fridge.
