Cooked or raw food for sage hatches

Recommended Posts

The game lists everything food related in terms of calories instead of kilograms, and AFAIK, hatches poop only cares about the mass of what they eat, so is it better to feed them raw mushrooms or meat, or cooked mushrooms or bbq instead?  Even though you add pinchapepper to the meat to make bbq, does its mass increase in the process?

Their consumption is based on kCals, but their production is based on the Kgs that were consumed in reaching that quantity of kCals.  So ideally you want to feed them a food that has a very low kCals per Kg, if you are going to feed them with food items.

Long term, bristle berries are the best for feeding sage hatches, which only require water (easily renewable) and power for light/cooling (also renewable). Feeding them anything else food related either requires dirt/slime/algae, which are fairly limited resources, or has diminishing returns, such as ranched food.

Short term, meal lice is probably best, as it has very low food value per m3, and is easy to grow.

That's if you want the most coal.  What if you don't care about the coal and just want to keep them fed with the least food?

Heh, I guess I never hovered my cursor over that before.  Interesting that bbq is better than raw meat, but fried mushrooms are no better than raw.
