it still feels very weird

Winona actually refers to herself as Winnie in her cook "skin" during the Gorge. The free skin that gives your character an apron.

It's okay if it feels weird to you. I shared a name with five others in school, so I know the confusion and frustration with names. Maybe she could go by Winnifred?
And Zeklo found that Winona's Gorge quote has her self-referencing as Winnie.

Thanks for the addition @Zeklo

i do not mind new character, i do not mind either a vegetarian character. However, i'm under the impression that nothing support the idea that Winnie is vegetarian in the game, just the combo of Up and Away choosing this, and the opposition Winnie/Wigfrid (calm sheperd vs flamboyant warrior, and since wigfrid only eat meat, if winnie is the reverse, she will only eat vegetables).

The lack of recipe isn't a problem since adding recipes is totally possible, and you can even imagine that a vegetarian character can obtain milk without killing animals, allowing even more recipes. No need to make all the new recipes exclusive to the character.

I don't think however that being only vegetarian and have a critter connection will be enough to make a character fun to play, even with the challenging part, it could lack some dynamism.

Also, i'm not sure i really like the idea of a sheperd being vegetarian, i don't know, it's not for me exactly the idea i have of a sheperd, especially in a playstyle like DST, when other people could need the meat of the animals : so a sheperd that will not eat meat but let other players kill the animal ? Not really great. A sheperd that could interact with animals but will not let other people kill animals ? Not really great either.

It's not that i dislike the idea of a vegetarian character or a sheperd character, i just don't feel like both are really compatible.

This is of course only an opinion, maybe something else entirely would be best for winnie, without removing the possibility for a vegetarian character.

Several of these points have already been discussed, such as the possibility of a meat-eating Winnie and of the recipes not being exclusive to her. She could be any number of things when implemented.
What do you think would be the best direction for Winnie's character?

Since she is a sheperd, i would say stuff like being able to milk goat, ability to shave beefalo when they are awake, this kind of thing.

You can give her a penalty when killing animals, if you want to show her bond to nature, it will still be possible to kill some and eat meat (that is logical for a sheperd), but you can this way show that she dislike the process itself, and encourage her to let other players do it.

Obviously she'll need stronger upside and downside, but i think that the sheperd direction is better than the vegetarian one (especially since Up and Away already did this, and maybe Klei can't do this again without conflicting).
