Giltirn
I started a new game yesterday in the current beta space industry update and noticed that my home environment is rapidly heating up from contact with a neighboring caustic biome to the point where the air temperature in the outer regions is above 30C only a few 10s of cycles into the game and my mealwood plants stop growing. I've never noticed this happen before and have had to rush research on insulating tiles to stop it bleeding further into my base. I'm not entirely sure what is causing this. My current theory is a change in the spawning of the abyssalite buffers; I always thought that biomes were separated by a layer of abyssalite but it seems that there is very little abyssalite separating my home biome from any of its neighbors. Was it always this way and I'm just misremembering? mathmanican
There has never been abyssalite between the home biome and surrounding. You could build a double layer of insulated sandstone (or igneous) to stop this entirely. So is some other change at play here, perhaps in heat conduction or the comfort range of mealwood, or is this perhaps just due to my farm placement that I only now notice this problem? I generally build my starter farm in the middle of my base. When I put it by the edges, especially next to the caustic biome, it always overheats. I'll often place it next to the side if there is a slime biome next to me at 26C or so. Then I know it will never overheat, and I do not build insulated tiles. I always put insulated tiles between me and the 35C+ regions, as soon as I can. It's most likely a combination of incredibly bad luck world spawn and you're just now noticing the problem. Granite is the most conductive raw material, and if there's a steam vent or something really hot right next to home it'll heat things up. One of the FIRST things I do when starting a new world is rush research to insulated tiles, and line the outer edges of my home biome with insulation. There's negligible difference between any normal rock material for insulating your home (23oC) from the outside (30-40oC), so use whatever is available. You'll only need more expensive insulation for stuff like volcanoes or steam turbines. I'd place your farms right next to your water, as it'll keep it cool longer, and make transitioning to bristle berries easier later. This works great too. Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/96476-heat-issues-in-home-biome-current-beta/#findComment-1094288 Share on other sites
Neotuck
it's possible to dig a vacuum barrier next to a caustic biome to save time on rushing on researching insulated tiles Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/96476-heat-issues-in-home-biome-current-beta/#findComment-1094289 Share on other sites
Neotuck
To build a vacuum barrier first build a ladder one block away from the hot biome then build one tile once the tile is built dig one tile on the other side of the tile you built Rinse wash repeat.... Sasza22
It might also be caused by you digging out the edges of the biome too fast. Leaving more rock at the edges will slow the heat spread.
