Probably my worst idea on mining industry - Adding deposits into the game.

I remembered last time I suggested geyser pumps.

But suddenly I have an (poor) idea about something that similar to geyser but it gives solid.

Deposits.

WHAT AM I THINKING!?

We already have fancy ice geysers that spat solids on dupes (ouch, what’s that?). Why deposits?

Really, even myself can’t explain.

 

Well then. May be share it to you guys.

 

Like geysers you can find it anywhere (but that is without neutronium as indictor). When you have found one, you can do nothing on it unless you have a senior miner to investigate it. (Uninvestigated deposit looks like a dumb rock.)

After investigation it will become a deposit available for mining (it’s outlook will also be changed according to its reserves) , but before that, a driller is needed to be built on it. For some harder deposits (hardness >=200) like diamond it probably require a specialised driller HyperDrill (blueprint must be found from Gravitas’ abounded rooms or researched first.)

Deposits are not renewable as other geysers. Limited amount of resources can be extracted, but comparing with normal veins in the map, deposits contains more resources. A fully-drained coal deposit can run a coal generator for 150 cycles (my suggestions, but if you think this amount is too-OP, you can suggest another relative amount.)

Driller and Hyperdrills requires power to run, but they are both automatical.

 

Sorry that this time I can’t have some good ideas, but please enjoy it.

Also Klei could add an "Infinite" tick box before world generation for Deposits, if the game then also has Slime Deposits - I can play without debug. Give me some slime purchase option, trade exchange or infinite deposit function and Im glad to play on normal settings without debug. Slime is just a place holder, other people want to have other infinite resource availability ( does not have to be for "free" in the game ).

Your described deposits, plus resource trade + rocket resource exploration = Perfect :)

 

Or rather, It should output something like slime by putting in dirt. The existing slime in the 'deposit' will consume the dirt/sand and convert it to slime. Hence we can make it a renewable resource.

Hell, we can input the mafic rock or regolith and output slime or other stuff. Would be a useful way to do so.

Maybe something like a mining shaft. You could construct a building over it and deliver metal. A dupe would craft a drill and drill deeper once the deposit is exhausted in similar fashion to how the oil well works but would require constant operation. Once the drilling is done it would produce small amounts of ore. Might be an alternative way to get diamonds or other unrenewable resources.
