TheEvilMango
What is the best way to go about creating a cooling loop. Ive heard it's best to use petroleum but I'm not sure how to do it. Neotuck
Latest update has a better liquid to use called "coolant" Simply loop the liquid with an aquatuner submerged in polluted water, the pwater will heat up but it's easy to delete heat with a sieve Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/96160-cooling-loop/#findComment-1090884 Share on other sites

TheEvilMango
Do u mean the super coolant? What makes it better than petroleum? And how do u make it? Neotuck
It has a greater thermal capacity than petroleum, also the freezing/boiling tempatures is so vast it's unlikely to break the pipes It's made in the new molecular furnace Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/96160-cooling-loop/#findComment-1090907 Share on other sites

What I like to do for cooling my base is the same as neotruck suggested, but I also use a water sieve>carbon skimmer to get a 40C Pwater. Now, the skimmer is placed in a chamber with a petroleum generator that generates CO2. Since oil is infinite, you will never run out of Pwater (you will actually generate it via the petro generator). 0xFADE
If it is a cooling loop for your base polluted water works fine. To cool down geyser from steam oil is fine, polluted water would still work. 0xFADE
I'm just going by when it is safe to use. I don't think the thermal conductivity really matters for something like base cooling that takes lots of cycles to do it's work unless it is something really terrible like chlorine. Neotuck
I mainly use polluted water to submerge aquatuners, it's like the best heat dump because how easy it is to delete heat with water sieves Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/96160-cooling-loop/#findComment-1091317 Share on other sites
Angpaur
Regarding cooling loops - one of the best design I've seen was posted on Steam forums: Maximum reduction of needed pumps makes it very power efficient. 0xFADE
Yeah I heat dump aquatuners in to polluted water as well. Very nice for now. Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/96160-cooling-loop/#findComment-1091455 Share on other sites
thejams
The problem with that build is that the polluted water gets sent to the Sieve regardless of it's temperature. The cooler the polluted water that gets sent to the sieve, the less efficient the system is resource-wise (here it is using CO2). Use a closed loop and only sent the polluted water to the sieve once it reaches something like 119 degrees. 0xFADE
It is just that in the early game stage where you may be running in to heat problems you may not have access to oil or anything nicer. So knowing that polluted water works just fine for that is reassuring. Prismaa
How one would cool down things without using sieve "exploit" ? Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/96160-cooling-loop/#findComment-1091616 Share on other sites

If you don't like buildings with a fixed output temperature you will have to use another heat destruction mechanics like wheezworts and AETNs. Other options are just moving heat to other places - however venting hot gas or liquid into space is another heat destruction possibility. Steam turbine can "delete" some heat as well. And you can always produce cool stuff using petroleum or natural gas generators - if it work in enough cold temperature it can produce solid CO2 (except natural gas generator as it outputs the gas via pipe) or polluted ice. PhailRaptor
19 minutes ago, Prismaa said: How one would cool down things without using sieve "exploit" ? A lot more convoluted heat transfer mechanisms to either a waste fluid for discharge at the Surface, or into Hydrogen for use with Weezeworts or AETNs. Removing the wonky temperature relationships of buildings, both the fixed temp outputs and the abusable same-as-building temp outputs, would put a pretty frustrating restriction on the heat removal ability of the player.
