Cipupec2
Got lucky in my current play-through, finding thermo nullifier, a cool steam geyser and iron volcano right next to each other just outside the starting biome Spoiler However, I'm still rather new to the game, and haven't really dealt with geysers that much (particularly the Iron volcano) so I am not sure how to handle this. Does anyone have any tips, tricks, or system examples of different ways to make use of my new goodies? EDIT: btw I have posted this on reddit as well, where people suggested some advanced setups, didn't really utilized all my goodies and which raised many more questions, like how do I calculate how much heat each geysers generate and how much of it the Thermo device can shed safely? I'd hate to finish building something only to realize some cycles later that I over built it and its failing Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/95136-help-noob-with-geyser-setup/ Share on other sites
Cipupec2
Another question. I want to use the thermo nullifier with the cool steam geyser and electrolyzers to make some nice cool air for my dupes. Is it better to cool the water before it enters electrolyzer or better to cool its products once its done? heckubis
your better off with using the steam to melt the ice . gold pump can handle a cool vent just fine if its in a vacuum the steam will stay steam at 110 pump it along insulated abyssal ducts to the ice biome and vent it there . use the water to create a cooling pool for the iron vent you want this in a vacuum as well. so the iron dosent cool till it drips into the water. the steam vent chamber should be insulated abyssal any other building type will leak heat making the steam water. normal abyssal tiles will still loose heat slowly so go with the actually insulated abyssal. there are several guides on setting up a vacuum chamber the easiest way is with a water lock but pumping out the chamber during a dormancy cycle is also a good option just takes a while for cooling o2 pump it through cold water if you build a chamber around the Nullifier and fill it with hydrogen you can use it to cool a tank of water built on top of it or make cool o2 by using cold water in your electrolizers and radiant pipes to cool the air and steal the heat from the hydrogen before feeding that water to the electolizer Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/95136-help-noob-with-geyser-setup/#findComment-1080692 Share on other sites

Don't waste your cooling power on the water if all you're using it for will be the Electrolyers. The Electrolyzer will destroy it when creating the H2 and O2, along with any heat it happens to contain at the time. Since you should be insulating your Electrolyzer build from it's surroundings already, simply use use Abyssalite or Insulated Ceramic Pipes to take the water from the Geyser room into the Electrolyzer room. This way you can use the full power of the AETN for the Electrolyzers. You should be able to offset the heat in the O2 portion (don't waste it on the H2 portion, you're going to destroy it and it's heat in either the Hydrogen Generator or the AETN) from 2 Electrolyzers with the single AETN. Dracian
This was the setup I used when I first tamed an Iron Volcano. Far from being perfect but, hey, we all gotta start somewhere This is not a fully automated setup, it needs Duplicant operation to recover the metal and to open some valves. This is a setup from the Cosmic Upgrade, but it doesn't use NatGas, so it should be compatible with current version. Spoiler Explanations : I built a really large chamber with the volcano at the bottom. All Insulated Tiles are made of Abyssalite, the first layer of regular tiles is made of Obsidian, the second and third ones are made of Igneous Rock. Ladders and the Compactor at the bottom are made of Obsidian too and everything metalic is made of Wolframite, except for the Gas Pump, made of gold. If I could improve the structure, I would not use the bunker tiles on top, instead keep on using the three tiles wide walls. I don't think I would reduce the size of the chamber, since it was quite efficient like that. How it works ? I pour some PH2O at the bottom of the chamber. For the first eruptions, I used Poluted Ice in the Compactor; instead. You don't need to pour too much, there's no need to flood the volcano in water, you would produce too much steam. 1000-2000 kg of PH2O was enough for the first eruptions. The Gas Pump right above the volcano is here to pump the Steam produced by the reaction, it is sent in a reservoir which happened to be built next to a liquid CO2 geyser and located under the volcano chamber. Once cooled down, the water is sent back in my warm H2O plumbing system but can be used again in the volcano chamber if needed. If the Thermo Sensor located under the pump detects gas above 125°C, the doors shut and the door leading to the wheezeworts room opens, allowing the gas to be expelled and to be cooled anyway. while letting the steam cool down a little bit. The filter gate is set to 30s, but I would probably use a second Thermo Sensor and a memory toggle to be more efficient. The regular gas vent was expelling CO2 from my NatGas Generators. It worked a little bit, but soon couldn't expell anything because of the pressure inside the chamber. The High Pressure Vent on top is expelliing cooled O2 (around -26°C) if the Thermo sensor detects a temperature above 30°C. The Pump located next to the exosuit checkpoint is pumping everything, provided the temperature is under 90°C (to avoid pumping Steam) and provided the pressure in the room is above 2000g (it's not needed otherwise, it is here only to prevent my Duplicants to have Popped Eardrums). Gas is then filtered : O2 is sent back to the exosuits and my O2 pipes, CO2 is sent in my "exhaust" pipes and expelled in the Hot Biome to feed my Slicksters Now, how to improve ? Automation. I wasn't using much Automation at that time and there are a lot of things to add to automate the process. I would also probably use Radiant Pipes to cool down the Steam with cooled petroleum near the top of the chamber and to avoid using that much wheezeworts. If I could give you an advice : don't be too hasty. Take your time to think about the process and be sure to have some fail-safes (The three-doors trick is one of them). Additionnaly, do not reveal completely the volcano until you are ready to handle the eruption. Hoping it'll help you Edit : Liquid pipes are made of Abyssalites, Insulated Gas Pipes leading to the Exosuits are made of Granite, the Insulated Gas Pipes leading to the High Pressure Vent and Expelling the Steam are made of Abyssalite. All other Gas pipes are made of Igneous Rock.
