Duplicants wasting food?

The wiki says that dupes can only hold a maximum of 4000 kcal and will eat at 2000 or 3300 during recreation.  That means if they eat a 4000 calorie +4 or +5 tier food item, most of those calories are going to be wasted doesn't it?

They only eat a portion of it so they don't waste it. If the 4000kcal food item takes 4kg and they want to eat when they are at 2000. They will only take 2kg from the storage.

mine drop the remaining portion on the floor in front of their dining table.....

That ususally happens if they interrupt heir meal for whatever reason, they should only take what they need otherwise. but I may be wrong

maybe mine are messy weirdos - they are on their break, the only interruption is when they decide they are done and stand up and walk a few steps over to the water cooler to start gossiping...
