Technoincubus
What are volcanoes good for other than producing magma for boiling natgas and water? PhailRaptor
19 minutes ago, Kabrute said: sand, hatch food, heat To expand on this... Magma Volcanoes and to a lesser extent (due to lesser output) Minor Volcanoes have a few uses. The obvious is the massive amount of heat they produce, allowing them to easily be the heating element in a Boiler system. Whether that be for Oil -> Petro -> NatGas, or for P-H2O -> H2O is up to the builder. And obviously, the H2O route will be an easy place to slot in a Steam Turbine for free power. As the Magma cools, it will eventually solidify into Igneous Rock. It will still be very hot, though. If you're not careful your Dupes will use it to build things throughout your base. It's usually a good idea to cool it before it reaches a place Dupes can use it. Set up a Conveyor Rail through a pool of liquid to transfer the heat. Use it elsewhere if you can before deleting it. You can then use the temperate Igneous Rock for construction, or for Hatch Food. Stone Hatches, in particular, will consume Igneous Rock to produce Coal The final use is to feed it into the Rock Granulator for munching into Sand. This ensures that, along with Regolith from the surface, you will never run out of Filtration Medium for your Deodorizors and Water Sieves. Yunru
I use them to refine metals. Just stick the metal in an storage container (I used Abyssilite orginally (before that I used to make doors and have them melt). Took forever but was worth it. I'd suggest Steel but at that point you've already a processor) and it'll melt out where you can cool it off to have it set. It's also possible but tricky to automate. Kabrute
build a gas boiler rail horizontal, midway slap a steam engine. As you add magma to the boiler plate it produces excess heat in the nat gas rail for transition heating the oil, at a certain point most other builds overheat and blow out lines, melt plumbing, etc, can use a steam engine to eat the excess heat into power right off the oil rail, its just a matter of getting comfortable planning out and setting up massive builds. I started with lox makers, built a little guy that made about 10g/s of lox, decided that wasn't strong enough and made that same system but like five of them together horrible waste of resources but it was fun tinkering trying to get that massive liquid ox engine to run. The magma they produce cools to igneous, at this point its most efficient to dribble the magma straight into a small pool of oil as it spalls into little pickable chunks instead of mineable blocks. Now using up all the filtering materials is a big challenge, not something that can happen without trying hard.
