Directional Pipe Junction

In my base, I got a ridiculously long liquid pipe. In it's way to the cold biome, I got other pumps or buildings conecting to this main pipeline. Of course, the water starts to backup. Then I had to make a second liquid pipe line, and then a third, because the flow of water gets confused on where to go.

My idea propose a simple but special type of pipe in a T  shape that specifically tell the liquid where to go, with 2 input and one output. And another pipe junction in a + shape with 3 input and 1 output. EUREKA!, Directional flow pipe. This will allow me to add 3 or more branches of pipes from different sources without the flow being confused on where to go. It can use 20 power or so, or need refined metal.

I would add an aditional research called advance liquid pipieing and advance gas pipeing. This would be AWESOME. It's those little things like the recent gas element sensor, (which was an idea I proposed like 1 month before it was released) that make this game better and better.

You can do this using things such as pipes or automation, its a round about way but it helps stop one flow taking over the other.

For every pipe you have going into the system, Make sure you use a bridge, So Pump > Pipe > Bridge> Pipe > Wherever its merging

Use the above for any time you have a new pump.

For every merge you have in the system, after the merge use a bridge and treat it as if this bridge were a pump and repeat the above steps.

 

I used to have the same problem because my Maps are much larger than the vanillas but I also have a lot more geysers, I have a 5 high maintenance shaft running the full length of my asteroid which connect to all of my geysers, and the first problem I had was pipes going the wrong way, ever since using bridges and fluid shut offs I have escaped this fate!

What you want is called a check valve. .. its an unpowered single directional flow valve used in fluid plumbing (in this case both water and gasses). In its simplest form its a trap door that allows fluid flow in but shuts if the fluid attempts to backflow. I agree it would be nice to have.

the normal valves work as check-valves and manual shut-off as well. I use them more often for that purpose than for fine-tuning liquid-flow.

regarding OP's idea: I don't like the liquid-/gas distribution in junctions as well. a special junction with adjustable ratios would be very welcome. meaning, if I got an in-flow of 10kg/s right now it cycles through the connected pipes giving them a complete package one after the other. I'd rather have normal junctions split the package and distribute it equally to all connected pipes. the new part could be called a manifold and have adjustable ratios (e.g. 1/1 in, 1/3, 1/6, 1/6 out, 1/3 back up). wouldn't mind it needing power, research and refined metal, since issues with piping mostly come in mid- to late-game anyway.

At the very least the could be used in conjunction with bridges to make piping a bit more flexible.
