Job questions "multi-classing"

Recommended Posts

Im currently trying to understand how the job system works.

I have an artist trained to Tier 2 and that's as high as i want them for now.

Is there any reason in the mean time not to train them in all the other jobs at or below Tier 2? So far i've trained Mining and Gofer and it doesn't seem to affect Decor/Food expectation as it seems to be based on the highest tier.

Is there any down side to "multiclassing"? that i'm missing?

The extra training in other jobs is totally worth it. Extra strength from groundskeeper ( and plumber ) will let them carry more, extra athletics from gopher and courier will make them go faster. Exosuit engineer is pretty much a must for anyone you want to put on an exosuit ( ie everyone ).

Engineer for a little extra tinkering is a nice to have on dupes that don't usually operate stuff ( just in case they have to for some reason )

Research gives them a little extra learning, so they gain stats faster, this is a two edged sword basically; On the one hand, this is useful for training highly effective dupes, on the other hand, getting highly effective dupes means they will quickly increase in their requirements for decor / food etc. so you will have to be ready for this sooner rather than later. Not a big downside imho, certainly not compared to the upside, but it also takes time to master that job, which they could spend training other jobs, such as exosuit engineer, which has a high priority on my list when it comes to things I want my dupes to master. Once you have your miner, your researcher, cook and artist set, exosuit is the number one to get for everyone.

Once my basic base is up and running, doing good and ready to expand, it's time to bring in more dupes to help out, when all the basic jobs that you need are already covered, the first thing I train them is groundskeeper and gopher -> courier -> exosuit engineer. Until they master that, they're not allowed to go into the zones that require exosuits, because they will simply be extremely slow there due to lacking the proper skills.
