I actually curious, Can I feed it simple food and will that create Greater Mass of coal? Food provides a lot of calories. And how other matter calculated for calories?

I did a quick test and fed a mush bar to a tamed hatch.  The hatch ate 704 kcal of the mush bar and pooped 659.9g of coal this would average once per cycle

normally a hatch eats 140kg of any solid and poop 70kg coal per cycle that's over 10 times more

so feeding hatches simple foods will create Lesser Mass of coal

No magical mass created? OK, in this case, normal food is very inefficient.

Well, it isn't if your goal is to produce coal. If one's goal is to sustain a large population to produce eggs. Feeding inferior food stuffs can be quite effective for that task. You need 5.1+ egg producers per dupe, I think. It is a way to turn mushrooms and meallice into quality +2 food.

have to do the math on that one, it will take about 10000 kcal total to feed a hatch for one reproduction and get 1 egg (2800 kcal)

alternatively it takes 2000kg of solids for one reproductive cycle

if you feed it meal lice you use 17 (round up) per egg you will need 510kg dirt GOOD DEAL

If you feed it dust cap you use 5 (round up) per egg you will need 125kg slime BETTER DEAL
