Iron volcano in cold biome suggestions

Recommended Posts

You can, which in turn will turn the dirt from boiling pH2O into sand as well due to the massive heat.
I think boiling oil with it, and then using the hot NG to heat up steam for a turbine is the most effective way to go.
I've got an oil well next to an iron volcano in my current seed, I haven't set anything up yet there, as my colony isn't all that stable at the moment, but once I get around to it, that's probably what I'm going to do.

Thanks! I'd be mighty grateful if you could walk me through this contraption. Have you seen this built anywhere before?

I've seen brothgar use an iron volcano to directly power a steam turbine, I think I'm going to do something like that, but use oil as a medium to heat up my steam 'hotplate'. That way I can use the heat to boil my oil into NG before I send it into the turbines.
After that, I'll try and cool down the NG somehow ( probably use it as preheater for the oil or something ), and fuel some NG generators with it.
The main reason I want to do this ( aside from it being cool ), is that my current main power generators ( https://imgur.com/a/ksEJ9 ) suck up a LOT of polluted water.

I have a similar case on my map with a gold volcano. My initial idea was very simple: use the anti-entropy to cold the gold so I can use it safely.

But then, before even finishing the build I got to discover that simple leaving it as it is, and just surrounding with some abyssalite tiles I get tons of cold gold.

The cycle is, when the gold still hot or the volcano is active I'll remove the dupes access to this place. When the gold is cold enough they get access and bring the gold to base.

This is how it looks:

This will work for a while, but you will eventually "deplete" the "coolness" (lack of heat) in the Ice Biome.  You will need to put together a plan for sustaining the cooling as that begins to occur.

I just threw this together if anyones looking for ways to actually use the metal at a controlled temperature.

Although using ice biomes to cool things is super convenient, it's worth remembering that it's finite - and eventually heat wins :D
