Bug or Human Error with Farming?

Recommended Posts

I submitted this as a bug but there is certainly a chance there is something I missed entirely.  I have a 2nd Tier farmer and while the job board states I should be able to produced micronutrients and such, my dupe does not have the Crop Tending trait.  My assumption, since the trait cannot be inherent in dupes, is that upon being promoted to farmer that the dupe would acquire the trait.  Is there something I am missing or is this a legitimate bug?

then I have no other suggestion, It should work unless it's not in a greenhouse perhaps?

Yeah, no greenhouse, no eligible plants (like only having mealwood), or just lacking fertilizer (but then it would say that) would be my guesses.

Your farmer needs the "operate" job active to use the farm station

@Neotuck @Saturnus You are both wrong

You didnt read carefully. This person problem isnt wrong task alocation, but that their dupe has no Crop Trending trait which is a bug

@Darkgecko I might be wrong here but I am pretty sure the farmer gets the trait not when you assign him or her to 2d tier farmer but rather when he is fully trained in 2d tier. Meaning if you have this issue but just assigned your farmer you might want to wait until he is fully trained to see if that resolves the issue.

I'll test that out and see.  Makes sense although it makes me question the value of a 1st tier farmer.

There are a number of reasons - increased tending speed and seed drop rate despite an inability to provide a growth rate increase - for dupes with a high initial farming skill, they will harvest and eventually tend very quickly compared to the average dupe. So fewer buffing farmers would be needed later on.

Otherwise having the booster ability as a their first one becomes more time consuming without the backing skills...

The premise reall only makes sense when looking at farming skills around 8 and up on trained farmers.

A duplicant tasked with harvest + fertilize ( farmer's touch ) when first given the position would most likely be unable to complete their work in a timely manner and theoretically spend all of their time doing so...

In the early game this would put them near mealwood - thus a low decor job with very high probability of stress - another reason why mealwood is out of the buff equation. Early farm hands gain the experience in the mean time - making the process of buffing the plants go much faster later on.
