Kabrute
I've seen some of the cages around the forum so I adapted. Have a similar setup on my morbs at the bathroom for a little extra airflow Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/86308-hatches-what-do-you-do-about-them/ Share on other sites
Zarquan
I leave some in the lavatories, some in the fertilizer synthesizer room, and leave the rest in a pit at the lowest floor of my base core base where I can feed them materials or just keep them until I find a new job for them. I heard a strat where you feed the hatches solid CO2, which is cool (hahaha I'm great at puns). The only confined model (like a cage), is the pit. It is a simple 2x3 pit that they can't jump up. I usually avoid the pneumatic door trick and just leave one natural tile per floor for them to burrow in to. I can then destroy all the floors directly below the burrowed tile and then destroy the tile, dropping all the hatches on that floor to the lowest floor. I tile up the lowest level except one tile of the bottom of a 2x2 pit. Under that tile, there are two built tiles. Once I have all the hatches at the bottom of the base and they are all burrowed in the one tile, I destroy the tile and dig up the hatches, who are now stuck. I prefer my method to the pneumatic door method, as it is easy to place the animal relocation traps on the ground and you can put the storage compactors on the ground. I am willing to bet the pneumatic door and storage compactor tricks will be fixed in the future. I usually excavate the entire starting biome asap to reveal all the hatches asap. I just produce more extra O2. It's not like they aren't going to breathe it all eventually. btw, how do you refer to natural tiles rather than built tiles? MidnightSteam
I've seen hatches in the Fertilizer rooms for quick and easy coal. What I do is lock them in Pneumatic doors as soon as I find them. Then forget about them for 300 cycles or so. Last time I had 9-10 Hatches locked up. I hate the Coal Generators so I never use them. I also tried feeding them the way you're doing but that's too much of a hassle on my side as a player. Next time I'll move them all into the bedrooms and have one in each room as decoration lol Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/86308-hatches-what-do-you-do-about-them/#findComment-991849 Share on other sites
Zarquan
I don't like coal generators in my main base either. They are just a mess to deal with since they release the CO2 directly to the outside rather than having a pipe output. Plus, dupes seem to ignore them a lot of the time. Natural gas generators and hydrogen generators usually produce more than enough power. The only time I use coal power is when I have a job far away that requires power. I sometimes make a minibase powered by coal and oxygenated by algae deoxidizers so that I don't have to run pipes or wires. The nice thing about coal is that it is easy to set up if you don't care about the CO2. I play with miserable immune systems with tons of dupes, so my main use for coal is vitamin chews for my 0 immunity dupes. I need a lot of them. goboking
Hatches, What do you do about them? Season them with pincha peppers and eat them. In regards to dupes ignoring the generator. Set the priority on the generator higher for better results. Coal generators are tasked by the delivery job not the power job. Consequently it gets shoved down the priority list (left to right on the jobs tab). Raising the generator priority to a suitable level will ensure it gets fueled. A single scrubber next to the the generator can control the CO2. I'm an advocate of the coal generator for small population colonies because it's a good way to free up dupe time. Zarquan
I don't like carbon scrubbers either. They generate a lot of heat and turn clean water in to polluted water, which will need to . I instead use automation to compress it. For small colonies, I agree coal can be nice. I like playing big colonies, and I can usually go manual generators directly to natural gas and hydrogen. My intention is to save the CO2 and either feed it to slicksters or hatches.
