minespatch
Probably should post this in suggestions but maybe a way to spread out the IP to general normies/non-game players is selling a ornament or two at Hallmark stores? Spreading the IP to a place like Hallmark might draw people who don't play the game to check the game out? I'd suggest maybe Wilson and Chest/Maxwell or replicas of the Magnificent ornaments? This is probably not the best place to pitch for a spread in IP merchandising but I notice how Hallmark sells several IPS to public, just thought it'd be a fun idea. Dreamscape18459
Might be an interesting idea. The artstyle is unique, interesting and different from most games on the market. The writing of the game is, in my opinion, pretty good as well. (Above average at worst but I think higher of it.) Interesting concept but would an ornament be a good way to show the game off? It could show the artstyle off which would be quite nice. Free advertising to guests who see the tree, potentially good marketing for friends of gamer. (Good since DST is a pretty good game. More people should be enjoying this game.) Physical print of the Valentine's day cards could also be a good idea to market the game. (Writing in particular.) The game is lacking ornaments as most physical merch seems to be statues (I don't think this is the correct term. Action figures?) and plushes. I don't think I would personally add a Don't Starve ornament to the Winter's Feast tree but to those who would want this all the power to them. More content for the fans is awesome and someone would appreciate it. I am personally not a fan of real life merchandise so I wouldn't directly appreciate/consume it and am not the best person to comment on this. (Digital goods are more my thing. Doesn't take up much space and less likely to break/get lost.) Would Bigfoot be the person to talk to about this? If you can produce something solid explaining why DST ornaments should exist he will definitely read them. (Although you probably don't need to since you produce a lot of content and likely have direct communication with Klei.) Either way I am looking forward to seeing if ornaments make their way to the Klei store in the future. =) Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/85905-how-about-working-with-hallmark/#findComment-988197 Share on other sites
Rellimarual
I think this would depend on the customer base of Hallmark. Do they have big chunks of free time to sink in playing a video game? It’s really only a few demographics that do. I don’t really shop there, so maybe they carry a lot of game-related items, but my impression is that the people who shop there are mostly older women who have a lot more real-life demands on their time than the average trifling gamer. minespatch
Well, Hallmark sells fan stuff all the time. Lot of Star Trek space ships, Minecraft Creepers, Han Solo in Carbonite. They do sell to niche markets, so that's my point. So.... Wickerbottom will be the main merchandise? Sicko Hog
I know it's pretty unlikely, but I'd love to have a set of ornaments themed after the fancy baubles you can get from Winter's Feast presents. (Especially Minecraft.) I agree on this. I don’t really know much about their stores or clientele, but both Trek and Minecraft are so huge I would think that you could sell merch for them to people who aren’t that interested in either but who are looking for a good gift for someone who is. The point being that Hallmark is profiting from properties that are already popular, as opposed to being a channel through which properties are promoted. Are there a lot of people who come to a game because they like saw the merch first and that got them interested? (I don’t mean that question rhetorically, but am genuinely curious if this is a thing.)
