Do I understand it correctly - gases piped to the Massive Heat Sink disappear and the machine cools down?

I think that's probably a typo in the game data. Absolute zero is -273 °C, which would be a more obvious number. Hopefully they change it.

100K is the temperature it's trying to reach. Why would it be going to the temperature that nothing can exist at?

I think maybe it is -173C so that it cannot be used directly to turn polluted oxygen into liquid. That is just a guess though.

Well its starting to get close, You can use it to get rid of your chlorine and carbon dioxide...

You can't actually, it takes in hydrogen to operate, any other gas will just damage it.

You can liquefy/solidify co2 and chlorine at -173°C

yes, but you can't pump it into the machine, the machine operates on 10g/s of hydrogen and produces -400W of heat. ( note the minus )

so you have to pump H2 into it to make it work, you can make a room and pump C02 and Cl2 into said room to cool it down to liquid/solid ofc.
