A wall mounted mini fridge.

Recommended Posts

I'm imagining a 1x1 wall mounted mini fridge with a watt per kilogram electric ratio of 1.2. And a max capacity of 50kg. Maybe even 40, for the novelty.

So, 50kg, 60 watts, 1x1... place it anywhere (like a gas pump).

Placement would include....near the medbed or locations where I need a small local cooling effect ( as has been seen with the latest iteration of fridges - don't know if that's a bug or a feature ).

Wait do fridges cool their environment or am I misunderstanding you? I thought they move heat from their contents to the environment now.

They do indeed cool their environment.  Or rather, the food inside them cools it.  I'm pretty sure you have to actually store food in them for this to happen. I think it's an oversight, since it's basically the opposite of how an actual fridge affects it's surroundings.  I position them along my power spine in my base, to help control heat:

They seem a little bit like electric wheezeworts, though I've not tried to calculate their actual cooling power.  Note the one at the lower left by the loom.  It's empty and is having no cooling effect (I just recently built it).   That's why I think it's not the fridge itself that's doing the cooling, but the cold contents.  I think it's an unintended knock-on effect from when they made fridges actually lower the temperature of the things inside.

If they want to fix this, they could make it produce heat on top of outputting the heat of its contents, like in real life. Maybe they should also improve its insulation, so that its contents don't exchange their temperature with the environment.

I noticed a strange phenomenon with the ration boxes that hint that you may be on yo something. I'm thinking it's a drop mask. The goods are there in the game and are emitting cold. I say this because I have had hatches eat out of the ration box as if the contents are there on the floor in the lower left corner.

But they do this slowly, as if only one item is there.

I'm wondering if the fridge locates the drop in the top tile. Because the hatches don't eat out of it. And the cooling effect seems more pronounced near the top.
