100% stress = game over?

Recommended Posts

I have a huge base, hours of gameplay and i realized that i cant solve the stress problem.

Massage beds, decor, nothing actualy works.

Is there a way to solve the stress problem when it reaches 100% or i have to start over?

Well, I haven't received a response yet, but you know how over time your duplicants raise their 'decor expectation' levels? It's kinda invisible, as I don't think that's a displayed stat (though I'm hoping it will be). I think that eventually their expectations get so high that you just can't pack enough decor into your base to de-stress them, where it isn't physically possible. I've solved it by cycling out my duplicants after ~100 cycles, and that seems to help, though try to space out the deaths to coincide with the 'new arrival' perks. You can kill off dupes by setting their 'calorie consumption' levels to 0 (on the vitals tab in the top right corner).

Of course, I haven't gotten any confirmation yet or corroboration that that's actually what's wrong. This is just anecdotal, so please take the advice with a grain of salt~

Earlier on, people suggested killing off duplicants by locking them in rooms until the starved or suffocated.

You don't necessarily have to start over; There is hope for reducing stress (just make sure your dupes have NO red / negative attributes, then throw them on the massage tables. Make sure the decor is bright green in the high traffic areas, and around the tables.

I like the option of getting a new duplicant and killing off the rest - you can even do this by removing the way back to the base after moving a dupe to a spot outside (in toxic fumes / underwater / etc.). It's usually easier to wipe out all 100% stress guys than to deal with them. Make sure you don't kill the new duplicant.

One time I was mad at my colony, so I filled it with magma until it no longer turned into solid material (it was very hot). Long story short, everyone got heat stroke and fainted, then died since no one was available to pick them up.

Massage tables. Use them. You can build them without any research as well. Your massage room and the bedrooms should be the first places you decorate. You can get into a stress spiral with stress vomiting, but time on the tables then mopping will get things back under control. I've recovered from having multiple 100 percent stress dupes many times.

For late game if you put them all in snazzy suits and have a well decorated base, your stress worries evaporate.

Also, just in case you aren't aware, that number is only your highest stress dupe(s). Mouse over the list and check the numbers; make sure you're de-stressing the right people.

It's actually displayed stats just well hidden :) and its capped on 50(55 with some perk) no matter how high lvl of dups.

for starter .... decorate your base with Masterpiece painting / Mediocre Sculpture / flower vase / Brittle Blossom Plant

until your decoration overlay is bright green ... especially where Dupes stand stand still such as mess table, manual generator.

next ... avoid polluted oxygen and polluted water.

it +20% stress per cycle for the duration of WHOLE cycle once dupe touch polluted water.

Had to deal with this in one game I left on while I went out to eat and to the bar, came back vomit everywhere, all manual power generators broken and lil oxygen left, everyone stressed 100%, took some time but was able to bring everyone back down and recover the base back to working order, took alot of massages, cleaning air and mopping but got it done, aside from just decor and massages, clean air is another important thing for lowering stress as well as mopping up so the dupes dont keep getting chilly from walking through polluted water, functional shower helps too.

Dirty air and dirty floors are the things that I find every one overlooks but has a massive impact on the stress.. even a few items on the floor will drop your decor immensely

I overlooked this my first few colonies. Then i moused over in the decore overlay and saw the debuff for all the stuff I had laying around and almost punched myself.

I am startint to kill off the destructive ones. I am also using Mesh Tiles so the vomit goes directly to the "basement", mopping all the time sucks.

I am having a hard time to equipments working inside the base, i dont know if it is too hot or energy overload.

Well, dealing with the vomits and decor now.

As others have said check what's stressing them and deal with that, I find often it's that they're 'Grimy' and stuff. Decor wise focus on where they spend their time, sleeping areas are usually first one to spruce up.

The biggest contributor to stress that I've found is setting stuff (Usually digging) to priority 9. They usually don't want to tread through that contaminated festering pit to dig out that slime block, and get stressed doing so. So they will avoid that and work out for a bit on the wheel instead. If you force them to sweat it up digging out hazardous materials they'll quickly raise stress, and by setting things at priority 9 this is what it does. So use it, but use it sparingly. Let them rest and stare at that wonderful impressionist painting they just stuck by the fridge for a while (It might look like an over-keen child drew it but they may be proud, be kind).

Now when they all reach 100% stress and are wading through their own piles of vomit and urine, things can be very difficult to control and often spiral into them contaminating their own water supply, and breaking oxygen generators... This is difficult, but make sure their core problems are dealt with, set things off priority 9 as their wellbeing is paramount now. If necessary build a timeout room and send one or two in there.

Things often escalate with the more dupes you have, if there's not enough food for 12, then things might have to get a little primal. Until they implement a straws system for survival you'll have to play god yourself. Of course they'll want to hold a little wake for the fallen so make sure you put a gravestone up for them and hold a proper burial. It's the right thing to do.

Good luck!

There is too much carbon dioxyde, the base is always yellow and i always have a problem with pressure when i decide to vent everything.

There is also the problem with machines breaking instanly after repair. If i put electrolizers outside in the ice, so they wont overheat, i end up having pressure problems so they stop making air. Sometimes the Water filter stops pupping for no reason. I know it is alpha, but i suppose i reach a dead end.

I decided to focus on stress, putting them on the massage tables, and i lost half my people to suffocation. They basically breath outside the base. Well, i have the save file, i will read more about air pressure and stuff, because i believe that is the sollution to my base, but i can get it to work. Good air in, bad air out, looks pretty easy, but i cant keep the oxygen making going.

Damn, this game is the Dark Souls of sim games.

Best bet for learning is looking at lps. The best way to learn is by looking at how people overcome obstacles, what they do/don't do.

But sometimes it's fun to just problem solve yourself. :)
