Thermo Update - 210489 - Cooling solutions (heating as well if used in reverse)

Recommended Posts

I've figured some unique heat management solutions that are both hassle free, works, and saves energy.  Nothing too complicated to setup either.  For gas applications, you can even use a vent as a natural pressure sensor.  I've provided my save for you to take a look for yourself.

In short though, my cooling solutions keep the coolant and the thing being cooled separately without the need for pipe filters and complicated wiring.  This is provided as two solutions, cold fingers and heat exchangers.  The cold fingers are wire bridges, either copper or gold almagam.  This solution is useful for applications needing tight space.  The heat exchanger is a section of normal gas pipes made of granite, the best conductive rock thus far and good for up to 668.9C, that snakes through an area while covering every tiles.  This solution is very efficient at adding or removing heat as it maximizes the area of contact.

I love it. I was actually thinking about trying this earlier today.

My goal is to completely seal off the steam vents on my map with abyssalite tiles and fill then inside with gas pipes just like you did. Then pump wheezewort frozen hydrogen through those pipes too cool the steam inside the sealed room and pump out the cooled water.

I made some changes to the thermo-regulator loop.  It is now better at fighting thermodynamics. :p

Also, I removed a gas pump to save even more energy.  The system on the right uses about 360W or 215.5KJ per cycle.

You mean buildings for cooling liquids?  Maybe, I don't think high priority.  We can cool liquids just fine with my solutions.  No pipe breaks, guaranteed. ;)

yea. for cooling liquids.

your solution indeed works, but having one building that can do it as simple as putting a pipe & wire will be a lot more practical :p

we already have thermal regulator, weird if we don't have a building to cooling down liquid (for geyser, magma, water cooling, etc)

They have a running theme in the game that makes you use physical interactions for game play purposes.  So having a building to cool liquids would of course be more efficient, but it would need to add game play and not remove them.  I don't know how they can do that without removing the sort of solutions that I've come up with.  Even then, you still have to be careful with over cooling if using a building.  You would still need my solution for the final stage of cooling if you intend on changing the phase of the material.

I am using this to a great effect. The temperature of pool rose a bit, but that was by water from geysers too. It actually formed the ice cover after I stopped it, if it contributes to the cooling effect remains to be seen. Generators are slightly above zero.

Energy cost is one liquid pump :) Plus I have scrubbers to deal with CO2 but they are not strictly necessary.
