rottielover
ok check out the storage box I have next to this Coal gen... (I changed my temps to F) The box is at like 125F but the ice inside is still -4 and not heating up and not melting.... AlexRou
Thats a lot of ice soo maybe it just takes forever to heat up? Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/76279-why-u-no-melt/#findComment-885623 Share on other sites
PickPay
I have the same issue and a smaller quality like 1000k. Seems ice takes ages to melt compared to snow. rottielover
hmm, maybe I'll move the box into the water and heat the water up or something like that.... Kulze
That's because the box has to heat up the ice, imagine a closed box with ice inside, that's exactly what it is. The heat first has to heat up the box, then it heats up the ice inside. So basically, the amount of ice inside will be heated up ALL at the same time, and with the thermal conductivity of the materials in the game, it will take forever to do so even at small quantities. The solution is to either deconstruct the ice box after filling it up, letting it sit on the ground and melt away in an hot enviroment, or you could choose the material with the highest conductivity if it should be done slowly, also in the hottest enviroment possible. Not really, apparently once it reaches certain mass, it trumps any temperature and just doesn't melt at all. Nicz
Yeah, ive encoutered the same problem. I filled my storage container with ice, and put it next to a heater. No effect. I deconstructed the storage and let the ice lay on the ground. No effect. On the other hand, ice that i put accidentaly into my storage room melted and made a huge mess without any heaters help. Seems like quantity is a real issue, and since i dont know how to split "balls" of resources im stuck with everlasting ice blocks. Try making a storage compactor somewhere away from your base...tell it to store ice. Then watch as your dupes go and pick it up, they can only carry so much(I forget the exact amount) and after some is picked up pause the game and then uncheck that storage compactor where you told them to take the ice. See if that will split your item stacks a little. Also if you use those huge stacks of ice and drop them(I always put them in the cold biome) and build a coal generator right where the ice stacks are...it will never over heat. So you can have unlimited power atleast until the coal runs out. Nicz
Hmm, the idea with cooling coal generator seems good, gotta try that. I wanted to melt the ice to get the extra clean water... well, looks like this idea is a no-no... unless i find a way to specifically tell my dupes to drop small chunks of ice into my water tank.
