Am i the only one who has most runs ended by running out of water?

Recommended Posts

I have ran out of water on one run through, my last run ended because of power issues, was getting my power mainly from coal but I ran dry of coal and couldn't find any more on the map in time and once the cascade of problems from the power interupptions started clones got stressed and kept my hamster wheels busted 24/7.

Hydrogen power is a joke, I can't produce enough hydrogen to keep even 1 generator running full time, only time it did was when I pumped hydrogen from a huge pocket of it, but that pocket ran dry before I could even build a second generator.

I guess lesson learned, go with hamster wheels from the get go until more power sources are introduced to the game.

When you say you used up all available water, does this include contaminated water? And how far did you have to play to get to this point? With a good recycling system I don't see water ever being an issue unless you get a really ****ty map.

I have run out of water completely before as well. Mostly because I was over-reliant on Algae farms to produce Oxygen rather than the Electrolyzer. I think the main point of Hydrogen Generators is less to produce power and more to consume Hydrogen. Think of it as a CO2 scrubber for Hydrogen that produces bonus energy.

Most of the colonies that end for me tend to be due to a lack of water. However, that doesn't really occur until around cycle 400-500+. Depending on how you manage your base, it's entirely feasible to use only a single algae deoxidizer for your base. Assuming, that is, that you place your farms inside an air locked room full of carbon dioxide (just pump it in there from your main hub), and you have 5 or less dupes in your base.

As for the hydrogen produced by hydrogen generators.. I just pump the hydrogen to a small cube after cooling it down. Eventually, you'll end up with liquid hydrogen. I just use it as an emergency supply of energy when my coal generators stall for a bit (coal generated from 2 hutch eating 20k kg of sand stone over idk how long a period of time).

For me i found a fix for water consuming situation by:

  • Not using algae terrariums at all - i rush to electrolyzer instead and then hydrogen generator.
  • Not using shower as it will consume pretty much all water (its bugged right now)
  • Using plant boxes as food source instead of microbe musher, which do consume a lot of water.

So pretty much sources which consume water for me:

  1. electrolyzer - consume a little comparing algae terrariums and produce good supply of oxygen, i have only one in my colony and its enough.
  2. research table (supper computer) - on early stage of the game when i have something to research
  3. Air scrubber - i have it on/off with power switch and use it when have too many of CO2

I don't even used that and instead letting CO2 fall all the way down. there is always some methane or chlorine to replace. And those little helper animals will convert chlorine to toxic oxygen and that's perfectly breathable :)

Water runs out becouse almost all of water using buildings destroying it in huge amounts.

For now I do not use this buildings: shower, lavaratory, air scrubber, electrolizer, liquid valve, algae terrariums, microbe musher.

Water pumps must be deactivated manualy, if they are not using in gright along.

If you deconstructing pipes with water in it - it also would be destroyed.
