The symbolism of Maxwell's Krampus skin.

Recommended Posts

When hallowed nights came out, every character got a unique Halloween skin, each mostly for fun and just for play. However, Maxwell got a skin of Krampus, and since Krampus is half demon, and Maxwell being evil with a number of characters calling him that, along with being called a demon by some, it is pretty easy for a player to turn a blind eye to the subject entirely. With an examination to the story of both, this costume actually holds some symbolism to him all together. In the story, Krampus is the contrast to saint Nicholas (Santa Claus) and would take especially naughty kids back to his lair. In the story of don't starve/Don't starve together, Maxwell tricks the main protagonists into building a portal which traps them in the world of this game. With the various given bits of lore of the series, Maxwell promised each character something, such as Wickerbottom wanting magic, Wendy wanting to bring her sister back from the dead, and Wilson, who desired greater knowledge. What ties this together is that by trusting someone like Maxwell, these characters let their greed and desires get the best of them. This is considered a "naughty" action, and with them being taken to Maxwell's world, or "lair" Maxwell has effectively become a Krampus-like being in and of itself.

But i'm curious what Wes,webber, wolfgang,or wigfrid would want this is common knowledge if you looked at the characters being in hell theory but maxwell trapped himself so your theory might fall through there

Maxwell was also tricked, but maxwell did the same to the other characters.

Wes: wes is the only exception, maxwell REALLY hated mimes.

Webber: wanted to be "Helped" likely to be a normal boy again.

Wolfgang: Obvious. he would have wanted more strength/muscles.

Wigfrid: likely would have wanted to be a better actor.

This is only merely a minor nod of sorts to maxwell at first in this. Also, comments made.

Webber is like this because of the don't starve world its why he resembles the spiders from don't starve

And if Maxwell got tricked that would mean he wouldn't be the one pulling the strings someone else would so he wouldn't be krampus he'd  be more like judas or someone else

First off, what is your obsession with comparing the world of don't starve to parts of the religion of Christianity? Second, it is unlikely that the characters are in hell because they are capable of taming the world itself, and hell is supposed to be a fiery realm of endless suffering. It's likely that webber's father was in close touch with maxwell, (see: alchemy machine examine line in both games) and created the spiders before the world of don't starve was created. Still, when examining the statues in DS (not in don't starve together), webber would say "That's the guy who said he could help us" which could imply something else, but regardless, webber required help from maxwell and fell for his trick.
