What if Klei made a DLC with SW as a basis, rather than ported SW?

Recommended Posts

For example, making a new DLC from scratch but using bits and pieces from SW. All the reskins and crap would just be cut out like the rubbish it is, but things like Poison could make it into the new DLC.

It gives them somewhere to start, for example, SW's boats become 1 man boats, and the new DLC adds team boats. It takes SW's good parts, and adds to them, cutting out the bad parts. It could all be one world too, so no reskins.

Reskin are fine if well used. Reskin isn't the big problem in shipwrecked for me, and since it exists, why not use it ?

For example, i wouldn't mind having some green grass in some biome, would be nice. And if there is some beach biome, having crabbit here is ok. Same, i would not mind finding a shipwrecked swamp with the merm hut, or reskin like this.

For me, problem of shipwrecked is... That i don't like the sea, that i don't like having tiny small island with nothing interessing on, and having to explore ten of them before finding a place with at least something. That i have the feeling that i spend more time in useless travel in desert sea rather than finding cool stuff.

I would like SW in DST if it means that world stay the same but you can also travel with boat, so two branch of the world close to each other could be reached by boat. Add some bonus islands (but not mandatory) so you have some incentive to explore (but you aren't forced to) and i'll be happy.

Mm, I was thinking mainland stays, Volcano is moved to rocky biome (not climbable... not sure how you'd get obsidian, actually.)

All SW biomes added to mainland, if possible combined with old ones. (Marsh has two types of turf and flups & tentacles)

But there would still be a bunch of islands to explore, and the sea would have a nice amount of stuff :D

Yea, I really like variety in games like this. Hence working on that skin expansion mod for tools and whatnot.
Re-skins can actually be a nice thing...though, leaving aside re-coding, anything related to porting game mechanics/items/ect is probably a headache for Klei on the business side, too.

- DST stuff gets ported to DS. Why make DST separate in the first place?
- DST stuff doesn't get ported to DS. SW stuff gets ported to DST. Why would new players buy DS? Particularly whenever DST gets an adventure mode...and personally, I think if it's ported and redesigned to fit DST, Shipwrecked would actually play better in a coherent, more connected world. Less reason to get the single player version.
- Port DST stuff to DS anyway so it's worthwhile. Then port SW to DST. How do you handle people who bought SW in one of the two games? Do you make them buy it twice? Automatically give both if they buy one? If they don't like the other game and don't buy it, then a disconnected SW copy is sitting in their inventory. People get gifts, people might want to play it on the other platform, they buy it, they already had one of the two, and then there are a bunch of isolated game copies sitting around...
- Implement SW in DST like RoG was? You're giving DST players something for free that DS players paid for, feels unfair to them.
- And any form of DLC implementation, if it's separate and requires purchase, will split apart the DST player base further.

It'd be nice if there were some good way to do it, buuut...

@Vargling, how many times must you bring up implementing SW in some fashion as a new thread?  If you have new ideas, why can you just not update one of your multiple existing threads on the topic, rather  than continuing over and over to make new threads?

No offence intended, just starting the discussion over when the other threads already had discussion on the issue isn't really helpful.  Generally it is just annoying and if I was Klei, I may even be more inclined to ignore your stuff for that reason alone.

Yeah as much as I like to see a dead puppy in the topic thread I think it would be better if you keep it into one thread so other topics can take your place people are going to see this thread and all your other ones even if they are not on the front page.

As if Klei read suggestions anyway. Don't kid yourself. Out of thousands, maybe millions, like 5 things got implemented from this forum, and it was probably a coincidence.
