Aeglefire
FYI, for people who don't know how, and for visibility: Here are the instructions on how to increase the DST default server size for your local machine. Let me know if this work for you. Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/71519-instructions-to-increase-dst-server-size/ Share on other sites
Arlesienne
As it was mentioned over and over, it's nothing new that you can change the cap through the LUA. You even have @KoreanWaffles explaining how here: This Mr.Zevk person is actually doing a thoroughly unnecessary thing, because changing tuning.lua automatically allows you to choose the number of player slots from the game, allowing for a dynamic adjusting whenever you want. And Spazian91 is wrong when saying you can add any value, because the real cap is 64. As for my thoughts on increasing it by default, I'm going to answer you in your other thread: Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/71519-instructions-to-increase-dst-server-size/#findComment-834978 Share on other sites
EuedeAdodooedoe
I really think they should increase the cap to, say, something like 10 - 12 players. Why is it 6 at cap by default still? If you offer more slots by default, you'll get undeserved complaints about efficiency from people whose machines are just not meant to host more players. The default set value could be lower though, like the current 6., whilst maximum available by default could be higher. Arlesienne
Just now, EuedeAdodooedoe said: The default set value could be lower though, like the current 6., whilst maximum available by default could be higher. That could work... if people assessed the power of their computers realistically. Objectively they prevalently set the maximum values possible without thinking more of it. And then they go to Klei and complain. Perhaps there could be a warning before increasing the server size to 7 or above for the first time on the particular server or each time once when you start the game? I remember how you spoke about some people not reading very big text in the main menu when creating a server. That's about these people. I don't think it would work, moreover a popup would be annoying for those who are capable of hosting for more. That's why I don't believe it would be a good idea, although your intention of making more hosts aware of the possibility of supporting more players are once is clear to me and I approve of it. I'm talking from these nearly twelve months of hosting myself on three different PCs and helping others set up their servers. A lot of them thought 2 GB of RAM constituted a good computer. I wouldn't host for six players on 8 GB. This is just what I figured out from tests, tests and tests once more. Well, may be it could be done once and once only for somebody, or you could select "don't display this message anymore"? Although I still fear undeserved complaints about efficiency. The latter option might be more viable since there's no good way to tell who's a newbie. You get people who played much and still are rather green, then individuals who have less hours scored, but know what they're doing from DS and/or the wiki. And finally techies who can reasonably figure out whether they can increase the limits or not. alainmcd
Editing the game files is a bad idea in general, and the tuning.lua file gets overwritten with every update. The easiest way is to type TUNING.MAX_SERVER_SIZE = 64 in the console before you enter the "Host" screen. For the lazy, I wrote this.
